Because you're playing on a battle server.  City, village and castle maps are siege maps according to Taleworlds (and strategus).  Open field maps are battle maps.

Plus open field maps are the only time you see infantry actually fighting (somewhat) together.  Rather than 10 groups of rambos all doing their own thing.

Open field maps are the best maps that exist.  Forcing players to use terrain and teamwork is better than letting players crutch on hiding behind houses.

Wat? I thought he was complaining there was only 1 open plain map per hour.

I find open field maps boring if they are played to often coz they are basicly the same. "Oh great this map again. Oh w8 theres a tree over there, how refreshing"

Really? I always thought rain just effected archers and crossbowmen.

it also affects movements speed and correct me if i am wrong but i seem to swing my sword slower when its raining so i guess it also affects swing speed.

Rain effects movement (of infantry and horses), but I do not believe it lowers your speed of weapons (or lowers your effective WPF).
