I wouldn't care at all if NA and EU had the same rotation, as long as it changed frequently enough to not be stale. the metagame is different between continents, but not different enough that map choices are super important to balance.
...what about poor old CN? I don't even know what maps they've had/have...
I've been to the CN server a couple of times and they have loads of really weird ass maps I have never seen before, they look quite fun. Not at all realistic or particularly well made, but lulzy nonetheless.
So far about 20 maps have been removed. If it is hilly and a village it is probably gone next patch
. Also of a lot of extremely similar ruin maps have been removed and those with questionable balance. 6 new maps are already lined up, and that is just for battle. Big siege changes as well. We have plenty of more things to do, but if a patch were to happen now, I think it is already a good improvement. In any case it will be a change, which is probably in itself farely appreciated at this point.
i heard something to do with official servers having tons of maps but because the server restarts at a certain time, the map rotation obv starts again so the servers only got enough time to use a % of all the maps, so if there was no restart then all the maps will get played over and over.
not sure if its true but its what i got told.
Currently this is not the case. Servers do not restart at a set time anymore, all restarts are done manually and not all that often. The battle rotation which we have been playing for the past 4 months has almost 80(!) maps in the rotation, a number which should give plenty of variation. Map selection is on shuffle for the server. I don't think the shuffle works very well though. I have had instances where I played a map and about 5 maps later I played the same map. So it doesn't actually go through each map before repeating maps. I can't tell how borked it is, but that might very well be the cause for the complaints that we're always playing the same maps. No doubt selective memory plays a part too though.
We are thinking about turning off the shuffle and creating a custom rotation which ensures that every map gets played before maps get repeated. This strict order of maps would also allow us to ensure variations within a playing session. No more playing 6 'ruins in a green field' in a row. Downside would be that the rotation would get predictable because the order is always the same.
