The video certainly addresses an important point, but I think he doesn't understand why crap is popular again. Before the internet, there was always a bunch of cool kids that liked stuff that was so new the "masses" hadn't even heard of it before. They invested a lot of time to always stay ahead of the "masses", because this made them feel superior. These people still exist today, but they have a much harder time now, because the internet made it easy for the "masses" to pick up cool new stuff. In order to separate themselves from the "masses", those cool kids nowadays have to like crap, because it's the only thing the "masses" won't like in a reasonable amount of time.
But it doesn't really work. Because the "masses" ALWAYS follows the cool kids, even if they like crap, which means that crap gets popular.
