Custom Banners

Ho there dear friends,
What's with the banner slot prices? I remember them being ~20k but now they are well over 100k.
What's the deal!?
Also, it could be cool to make personal banners, rather than clan ones. I would like different members of clans (for example) to be able to have different banners, with the same theme, such that it signifies their rank.
Also, personal banners (not clan based) could be cool.
Finally, is the slot required; is there any way that people can use custom banners without slots? I find the slot quite irritating and don't really see why people should have to pay for them.
Or is it a deliberate gold sink?

The engine only supports a limited amount of different banners, I think. But what you can do is edit the banner textures on the client side. This way, nobody else but you will see the changes, though, and if you will probably see someone else running around with your special banner, too, because almost all of them are used by someone. Maybe if you edit one of an EU/NA only clan and then play on NA/EU servers...

I don't want to look like a peasant with an ordinary banner that in no way suits my.
I would much rather have a Serbian, communism and violence themed banner which actually looks pretty cool than a measly purple unicorn banner.
