Local area chat

Quite frankly, I am a bit surprised c-rpg doesn't have it. For those that don't know what imma talking about: local chat would be like any other chat, just that only people around you could hear it. It can also have a "yell" mod where the area is enlarged.

It could be useful for organizing with people around you while not spamming chat, general joking around with friends (without spamming general chat) etc. Also useful for tossing warnings like "BEHIND YOU! CAV!" Come on, who hasn't wished he could do that?

It isn't hard to implement either. PW mod has it, just copy-paste the relevant files.

That'd be great, I also think that having an in-game voice chat would be pretty swell, like with games on the Source engine but I'm not entirely sure if that's possible.

Nonetheless, you have my support!

It's not a bad idea, but you know it's going to be abused. You've played CSS or CS 1.6 and heard all the kids haven't you?
You should be punished for having a shitty attitude.

Heh, yeah, voice chat is debatable for sure ;)

But my suggestion is for simple chat. No screaming kids there.

A large portion of the playerbase has access to free out-of-program voice communication (almost every clan has teamspeak/mumble/vent and you can at least get into the lobby as a pub). Adding it is probably not a high priority.

I'd like to see a "local" voice command in-game. people ignore INCOMING CAVALRY FROM BEHIND every time. MAybe if it was like bright orange they would pay attention...

irl something shorted on the shuttle and laika overheated and died within a few hours of liftoff and for a brief while one could look up to the stars and see a light shooting across the sky that was actually a warm dog corpse slingshoting about the earth at thousands of miles per hour which was arguably humanity's greatest achievement so far

im against voice chat, you will have to listen to 10 year old kids flaming all the time saying that you suck and that they lose because the game is bad. There might be an option to disable it, but if you do that you will also not hear the important cries for help (like when the flag is getting captured). It will be a dillemma: listening to kids or not hearing the tactical stuff.
Its already bad enough to see these people flaming over the normal chat

cool idea in my opinion,
for people who do not want to listen children should be the option "mute".

as said, some people do it with the normal chat already and they never know when the flag is in danger.
they never see my "FUCKING CUNTS YOUR MOTHER IS A WHORE AND GET YOUR LAZY ASS TO THE FLAG"-cries for help. :P

we know, but someone suggested the spoken chat here and as we dont care about local chat the topic changed to spoken chat :P
anyway, i dont know if im that much for local chat, as i think that PW mod only uses it for the fact that the maps are so big that it wouldnt be really roleplay if  there was none

Yes, but it still could be useful for c-rpg, especially for quick/localized instructions.

And its implementation is reasonably easy so....why not?

because nobody would use it and if nobody uses it and some still use it to call for help with their team they wont get any because they dont use the  normal chat (wich is used) but the unused voice chat

Yes, and both of them allow you to mute people individually.

Warband would be night and day better with voice comm in game.  Pretty much every single "First Person" MP game over the last 10 years has been released with in game voice comm.

yeah because every one wants to go off a huge list of kids to mute when he joins a server

In CS it remember who you had previously muted :P

And I found that more people used mics for coordinating and being strategic than to be annoying douchebags.  Also, there's admins if people get out of hand.

The benefits (to me) far outweigh any possible negatives.

They didn't leave voice comm out of the game because they thought it would be bad, my guess is that M&B has always been very low budget and didn't worry about anything "extra"
