The length makes it easier to use, since most people like to keep range against 1handers.

The price is also a plus, since it means you earn more gold. Remember, you also have to pay for the shield.

in that case I would say that 18 ps - is not enough today (especially with 5if), huscarl shield for people who long ago accepted the fact that they are being killed, and 114 wpf ... omg  what is it)
but I will not so unequivocal: try some STF build, 18/18, 21/18, 21/15 (better for level 30),  feel what you are missing more with your style, speed or power, and on this basis make your high lvl build

21-15 i prefer heavier armour but i find i prefer these builds over 18-21 which imo sacrifices a lot just for 1 extra athletics
And IMO Wpm is important for a shielder. when two shielders meet i can usually left attack then left attack again just beating people i know have base wpf with a similar weapon

I am a very successful 1h / shielder with huscarl and long espada eslavona. I top the charts often on NA 1 battle with this build. The MW LEE is amazing, it takes some commitment to get it to be MW but it is one of the best weaps in the game at rank 3. The steel pick is 2nd best 1h weap IMO. But you need a stab and the LEE stab is amazing, you can defend yourself against cav with it as well which is why they all hate me! Just stab their horse's face and they will drop. The steel pick people like because it doesnt glance as much as the LEE, but I believe this is a bug when the LEE stab glances and will hopefully be fixed. Even if you have to deal with glances from the LEE you will learn how to use it. If you want to use the steel pick then I'd suggest a faster build with more athletics because you will need it to circle your enemies.

ive had a +3 LEE three seperate times now I prefer the nordic swords or arming swords with a shield but LEE is definatly my fav to fight with without a shield

sounds logical, because you get 5 wmp, 1 if and 1 shield  for 1 athletic on the other side. hmmmm .

at the moment i am lvl 27 17-18 .... i should think very intensive about that. perhaps i'll try 18-18 .... but im afraid, that 6 ath is not fast enough. and i am definitely play with steel pick, because i am already spend my hireloom in that weapon  ... so i have no choice

5 PS is enough if you use a Steel Pick. Only if you plan to use a cut weapon you should get atleast 6 PS.

4 ps is enough too, with 35 pierce (+3) weapon you don't need more than 2 ps
