Late reply, I know.

This has that same disconnected floaty combat feeling that WoTR has...anyone whose played both have any comparisons?

I played them both quite a bit to try and really get a good feeling for them. Honestly WotR I think is pretty bad. It has potential, but I don't trust they will get there, especially with their eagerness to release the game, it is more like an early beta than a finished product. Animations are odd, there isn't really a feeling of collision when you hit someone, its all really just spam spam spam, its just not very good.

Chivalry however, is different. It has some kinks but definitely feels a lot closer to a finished product, and in a months time (release date is october 26th or something) I am confident they can get it to a good launch quality. I wouldn't even be disappointed with the current gameplay at launch, but I have had some technical difficulties that should be fixed.

Chivalry has a clear feeling of contact when you hit people. Animations are odd but not bad. There is double tap key movement to dodge, crouching, feinting, and sprinting along with multiple classes with varying speeds and armor that make gameplay much more than just spamming. It just feels.. good. I like it a lot, and I honestly expected it to be shit after playing WotR. No doubt I will be playing the shit out of this.

And to address some points I have seen people mention: Yes, there are only 3 attack directions. Left click for horizontal swing attacks, which you can combo to swing from the other direction. Mouse wheel up for stabs, and mouse wheel down for overheads. I was hesitant about this but I really like how it turned out. Also, blocking works a bit different. It is a parry, so you can't hold a block. In addition to that, it isn't  EXACTLY manual blocking, you just have to try and keep the tip of your enemy's weapon in your screen and time your parry correctly and it will do the rest. However, this basically works the same because to keep the tip of the weapon in your screen you usually have to look the direction of the swing.. which is what you do when you manual block in Warband.

All in all, good game. Give it a try. Fuck cav.

There are old sellswords and bold sellswords, but there are no old, bold sellswords.

There are 3 basic attack types not directions, big difference. There is 2 slash animations 2 overheads and 1 stab, so it makes 5 directions (except spears they cant combo attacks). Also attack types have different advantages. Horizontal slash is easier to land, overhead does more damage, stab has longest reach. Big weapons like greatsword can push enemy back with stabs, forcing to keep distance. Every weapon has different speed and damage on each attack type. Bardiche for example has weak but fast stab and slow brutal overhead.

Long ago I played AoC alot, like years ago when it was first beta released to public, had alot of fun playing that but eventually got bored, especially when Warband came around I never played it again. Because of this I wasn't really sure if I would be that interested in Chivalry, but I bit the bullet as I knew the devs were decent guys and I had once loved a mod that they made, I can tell you I am happy I did because I had shit loads of fun playing this earlier.

It's not fully polished yet, has its issues etc, but even so I still had alot of fun. Sure, if you want a melee fighting game like warband then its probably not for you, but if you want a fast paced hack and slash in your face style of combat then this is awesome.

It was epic earlier when I hit a guy with my sword, he fell to his knees gurgling on his blood, and just as he did so my team mate came running up behind him and cut his fucking head off ( he was already 'dead' in game terms but hey, best make sure ) then as his head flew off, I kicked his headless fucking corpse into the dirt, then I teabagged his bodyless head, and he watched my crotch hitting his face through his players eyes via the deathcam, he got owned so hard it gave me a boner.

Also another good one was when I was using a 1 hand axe and some archer my old friend came running at me with a butterknife, I hacked his arm off and as he was falling down I hacked his head off, game over my old friendcher, now taste my nuts.

Also good to watch people get frustrated when I use a Spear and they have a short ranged melee weapon, they parry my thrust and try to come straight in for an attack, only for me to already be kicking and they just get kicked back and do this til they get so mad they stop blocking, start spamming and then I just spear them to death, I can almost  taste the tears.

Much better than WoTR and more fun than I've had on Warband in a long time.

Also, love the animation when someone is killed by ranged, they drop to their knees and are like:
