Click on the strategus action menu, then towards the top left click on "zoom" and you will be able to see a close-up of where you are (you will be a tiny black dot in the center). You can't move over rivers, or over the "bolded" black areas of the map (looks like a black sharpy line). You need to back out from where you came and cross the river over a bridge.
