Let's fix the long maul.

Face it, the long maul was never really good. Generally people use it for the lulz, 'cause as a weapon there's a million that are WAY better.

The recent nerfs hurt the long maul very hard. Since it's ridiculously slow (the slowest weapon in the game by a large margin) you need to make a lot of adjustments when you swing. ESPECIALLY when you overhead. The reducing turning radius hurt that a lot. Removing polestun is also a huge detriment to the weapon. Since it is so slow and unbalanced, if you hit someone who's using a fast weapon with it, they can hit you back before you can even possibly block. It's long length and heavy weight also dramatically slows you down, which makes it harder to maneuver.

For comparison, look at the stats of the great maul vs the long maul:

Long Maul
weapon length: 125
weight: 7
difficulty: 18
speed rating: 70
weapon length: 125
thrust damage: 10 blunt
swing damage: 37 blunt
slots: 3
Can't use on horseback
Crushthrough
Unbalanced
Knockdown
7,592

Great Maul
weapon length: 68
weight: 8
difficulty: 20
speed rating: 80
weapon length: 68
thrust damage: 0 pierce
swing damage: 43 blunt
slots: 3
Can't use on horseback
Crushthrough
Unbalanced
Knockdown
9,766

The great maul is heavier (more reliable crush through), does 6 more damage and is WAY the fuck faster.

I suggest the long maul gets the difficulty increased to 20 and it's speed increased to 80. It will still be slow enough to where you can outspam it, but it will at least give the user a chance to adjust for movement and to block.

Make it usable from horseback.
Best ban reason ever:

I checked, the only Vagabond I found was Wolves_Vagabond_TheCruel, that guy is now unbanned. Ban reason was: "calling Zotte a cockswoggler".

Slowest by a long margin? Wat?

Pike -
Speed Rating: 68

and that's thrust only, so thrust stun for failed hits.

That said - that extra length is a huge deal if used right. 125 length is enough to outrange a fair number of weapons, and combining that with the crushthrough it can mean the first hit is free on a number of weapons. Now combine that with knockdown and you can easily get a "free" kill.

Personally I'd much rather run into a Great Maul than a Long Maul.

If that "fair number of weapons" it outranges are 1-handers, then I would agree with you. Otherwise, not so much. Due to animations, quite a large number of 2handers outrange it and even a couple 1-handers can. Not to mention the fact that anyone who isn't an idiot will just wait for you to swing and then move in before you can even react.

Due to it's length and small sweetspot, it glances constantly if anyone moves close to you. Not that you'd be able to get a swing in anyway. It also doesn't reliably crushthrough either due to it's low weight. Thinking that a long maul is better than a great maul is laughable at best.

And it's still only 2 speed faster than the pike, which is kind of a joke weapon anyway.

...
wut

Anyway, on topic, admittedly I don't think a small buff would be bad for it, but +10 speed is a little too much. Ideally it would be good if they could do something about it's sweetspot, but that would probably require changing every polearm, which would be massive overkill.

people use it for lulz because there very little if ANY teamwork in cRPG.  Its a support weapon, not a 1v1 weapon.  Use it with a teammate and its fine, no need to change anything

It's too slow for support weapon I'm afraid.

Pike isn't that slow because it uses thrust animation which is a lot faster than overhead animation. Long maul is actually slower weapon because its best attack is super slow.

It never had polestagger...

Even so, it's always been quite bad, especially compared to the two-handed mauls. A slight buff would be nice, like maybe give the thrust better damage. The thrust right now is a joke
I voted Gurnisson cause of his fucking bendy pike, I swear noone can roflcopter stab like he can.

You are doing this the wrong way. Yes you should compare the great maul and the long maul, but the conclusion should be to equalize the great maul with the long maul and not the other way around. The great maul is very OP.

Long Maul should have higher damage than the Great Maul.

Yes it is lighter but it is on the end of a much longer stick and therefore hits with a greater force than the Maul.

Do some basic physics and you'll see that the Long Maul should be doing 50 to 100 percent more damage than the Great Maul.  You would have to be holding the Long Maul very high up or it would have to have a very heavy handle to do it's current damage in comparison to the Great Maul

Whether this is done by nerfing the Great Maul or buffing the Long Maul is something else entirely though :D

Yeah moreso than the speed, the crushthrough is its main purpose, but it has no reliability.  Risk vs. reward in using it doesn't add up, though the knockdown is still pretty reliable in a 2v1 situation.

73 speed, 40 damage, 8 weight sound appropriate to you guys?

overhead turn rate nerf is a great problem for the long maul tbh.  just so easy to outmeneuver it...
