Working on a Hybrid Crossbowman/Something post retirement

Posted this on Tale Worlds, but now that there's an official forum, why not post it here as well?

Currently a gen 1 with a pretty good idea what I like. I enjoy my sniper crossbow, and am currently 50/50% split between that and a hoplite build as far as skill points go. Thing is, I don't enjoy foot battles where it isn't a huge horde crashing into a huge horde as a hoplite, and honestly, two handed weapons just don't do anything for me. So for my first retirement, I'm looking for a changeup.

I was planning on carrying over my sniper crossbow, as it's the one thing I am 100% sure I will be using extensively next gen. That said, I find myself dying to spammers in every single encounter I have with them, even if given plenty of advance notice, and would like to give that a go. So here's my situation.

I'll only need 16 str for the xbow, I might go to 18 just for extra power-strike, but I was planning on leaving str at 16 and putting the rest into agi, allowing me to get the best shields and max out weapon master to overcome the hybrid aspect of my build, and, of course, spam better. For armor, I like my Cuir Bouilli over Mail with garbage boots, leather gloves, and a garbage helm. With high agi and athletics, I should be able to keep using that armor and move quick.

So the only real question I have is, what one-handed do I use for maximum spamming? I was currently leaning toward the Military Pick, as it's fast, has piercing (which as I understand, helps with spamming a shield off) and is only 2k, which should help if I hit a string of losses post-patch. I have also had the Elite Scimitar, the Wakizashi (and it's 2 handed cousin), as well as a Warhammer recommended. But as to actually making up my mind, I'm at a loss.

Of course, my other option is to not retire the crossbow, and take it on good faith that heirlooming one of the above 1-handers will serve me much better. So, which direction should I go?

Either the Military Pick or the Elite Scimitar are good, I'd say go for the scimitar as its fairly fast.

Pick and Warhammer are badass weapons and I love people that use them, but keep in mind that they will become slower when heirloomed. Scimitar is honestly the most competitive, but not everyone has a "I must always win and have the best gear" mindset. It's incredibly overused if that matters to you.

Any 1H blade becomes spammable once Balanced.

It goes Balanced, not Heavy? That's awesome. Not sure how I missed that.

10 weapon proficiency with one handed, bought a pick and a shield, getting results.

Think I might just stick with this.
