[Strat] Upkeep on Armies

Base up keep on both the number of recruits and the gear they are carrying. So uber armies cost more to keep in the field.

Base it on the armour, weapons and horses. But not on siege gear or ammo.

What do you think?

Yeah probably not, but it would add another dimension to the over all strategic and tactical model being used by clans. You wouldn't be able to just launch huge super equipped armies, you would always be slightly hamstrung and forced to choose between an even spread of mid range gear or some low tier gear armies and a big centre piece army of super equipped troops or at the other end of the scale, hordes of peasants.

Troops are not bound to their equipment in Strat so people will be easily able to get around this (at least defensively) by keeping their troops in their fief, but the equipment on their character.  In order to make this work you would have to simply add upkeep to Strat gear that you pay regardless of the gear's use or how many troops you have.

I like the idea in principal though and at least it would make people choose whether to have a large amount of low end gear or a small amount of high end gear for their tickets.  Then again maybe it will just be yet another level of micromanagement for clan leaders to handle.  If Strat actually ever changed to put the emphasis on individuals instead of on clans with member drones, then I would favour the change, but otherwise it is too much hassle.

I do agree Tomas, mostly I was just looking at it for marching about. What could be interesting is having the upkeep cost of gear change dependent on fief. So towns have the worst upkeep margins and can only support very light gear with out a cost, then castles jump up a slog and then the city guard can support pretty good mid tier gear with limited upkeep.
