Mouse blocking

I'm having trouble using the mouse to block. A lot of the time it just seems unresponsive, so what can I do?

I move my mouse left and the block goes up/down. Other times I have to throw my mouse to get it do a decent side block; so I turn up mouse sensitivity and it still has these problems.

sensitivity could be too high, and it is picking up tiny motions. This game is nice because high speed does not mean competitiveness, try lowering it to medium or a little above.

Is there a way to change x and y sensitive separately?

Also, make absolutely certain you're moving left and right according to the way the mouse is being held. A lot of people have the tendency to hold the mouse slightly angled, and this can mess up your blocks. I had to relearn how to hold a mouse to play this game. :P

Yeah, that's really iritating, espcially with non-profiled mice like those from Razer...

Or it might not be your mouse at all.  If you have your graphics card turned on too high that will cause your computer to slow down and your blocking and movement will suffer.  Try lowering your graphics to as low as they can go and see if that makes a difference.

If that does not help try to reinstall the mouse driver for your mouse.  And by the way I noticed that wireless mice are almost always too slow for gaming so if you have one consider getting a wired one.

Also, if you're using it, try turning off Vsync.

Everything gets smooth, but your attack/blocking gets screwed, at least that's my experience, and two of my friends told me the same.

This.
Go to duels server more often , play defensive and try to observe how you react to enemies attacks.By reacting i mean where do you move your mouse =)
Your problem is probably this.
You have 2 options to solve this
Either you will learn how to hold the mouse properly or you will get used to move your mouse to any direction according to mouse's current position.
It is a hard and painful process i am playing this game for 1 year yet i still suffer from it
edit:I even tried using keyboard for blocking but it is reallly hard to adopt that.
I know one guy who uses keyboard to define directions of attacks/blocks and that guy is Cicero , he started first Mount&Blade singleplayer with this setting and from that time he's been playing with it that's why and how he's good at it

Try to split up blocking from looking, that helped me. Get the right block direction and then aim it where you want, otherwise it can be hard to do in the middle of combat and you can make mistakes as people move around. Especially with cav, get the down block and then turn (hold the look key often to check around for cav).
If you have ranged troubles use this:

I don't see a Vsync option, is it disguised under some Calradian name?

Keep in mind that its just one pixel of movement that dictates your block. Try practicing doing blocks with very small movements in the directions. You can enable to show direction arrows, to see them glow as soon as you move just one pixel in a direction. To really understand the blocking system, watch how those react to what you do with the mouse.

It's in the launcher of Warband/configure/Force Vertical Sync.

Hmm... Been using vsync in EVERY game, since i had my first video card that supports it, back in 90's. Never had any problems with it.  When i fail to block - it is never due to game performance.

That sums it up pretty much. Need a lot of practice. Try using a Staff or Practice Longsword, so you will not be tempted to attack yourself :) Always face your enemy, and keep distance - most of the failed blocks are due to wrong positioning. <-- this is critical.
