Ok, i'm lvl9 skill on crafting plate covered shield, 45% discount. So what ? I won't equip 100 men with a 90 gold shield, I just buy them some "4 coins shield", quite enough against arrows before close combat.

Look :  if I need 20 shields, I could craft those plate shield in 20 hours. Total : 20x90= 1800 gold +20 (city cost)
20 hours crafting goods , I gain 240 gold - 20 (city fee) = 220 gold. I buy 20 4 gold shields: 220-80= +140
First case cost me 1800 ( almost 200 hours of craft working to build+making money)
Second case : I have +140 gold, so I can travel to recruit more soldiers etc.

In 150 hours, you just have 20 big shields, I have a fully light  equiped army of 100 guys...

LOL you are comparing a shield that shatters in 1 good melee hit to one of the better shields in the game?  Gee thats a fair comparison.

Also, if you havent noticed, the # of items you get per hour is your skill with that item.  9 skill means you will craft 9 an hour.

If you are only making 240g a day you are doing something very wrong.  On average you should be making AT LEAST 20g per hour, crafting in a poor town and selling in a rich town.  20g x 24h = 480g/day.  You could afford to make those shields in under 4 days, assuming you play a little bit of cRPG to cover 1g visting fees for village

Digglez, don't try to reason them... crafting your own stuff clearly isn't worth the time...

trololololololol, I shall crush you peasant army with my medium equipment army that costed me the same as your peasant stuff! 

when you get 50% in price reduction that mean that you can have a item 2x better for the same price and a "little" time investment. Even more bonus if the item you craft is an heirloomed one.

I crafted a plated shield and I only got 1, not 9.

when was that? chadz changed that, at first it wasn't that fast. Now it is.

Also make sure you got enough gold to produce 9...
