Game Balance Discussion / Re: Humble opinion of BlueKnight
« on: July 12, 2011, 02:17:29 am »
- Horsemen were balanced also. I mean that if you were careful, you weren't killed by them. Good horseman could kill a number of enemies even in face to face fight. They were using the bigger range and maneuverability of their horses. My example is Templar_TommYyy, Who was great thanks to his skills not to the advantages of his class. Nerfing the angle of attacks means nerfing his skills. We don't want to be rid of skills. Tommy and other good cavs won't be able to show their possibilities. They got nerfed too much.
Anyway I am happy about the statistics of the horses. they seem to be quite fair, but the angle of attacks.... it needs some help.

Just wanted to say +1 on your post, and since you were showing videos to show this video which was on a cav thread that may not have been seen much yet:
Polish Lancer Drill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkXMkJ1rBhg

- thrusting to 90* both sides easily and more weakly to the rear
- holding the lance when using the sabre
- slashing to the sides

Seeing these capabilities, I don't think it is much to ask to get most of the previous lance arc back, and cav can live with dropping the lance and no slashing.  Or, as I posted elsewhere, figure out a system where cav can thrust in all directions when stopped, and slowly reduce the arc when moving at full speed.

Duel wield!

I'll be conservative as a sop to the crunchies out there, dual-wielding would be too much and I'll only insist on the ability to retain the lance.  And thrust over 180* arc... and slash.  I'll give up an even tighter couching arc though.

made some research to check how real lances were used, and found this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkXMkJ1rBhg

seems 180 attacks werent much of a trouble, the attacks behind seems more tricky

Great video!  That's what I was looking for but the cav demo was the only thing i could find last night.

Besides thrusts to side and (weaker) rear, it also shows slashing with the lance tip, and use of the sabre while retaining the lance!

Oh my...
 :(  :(
I hate the limits, but I could actually live with something like this if it was matched to horse speed.  Restrict it to a tight cone when moving at full speed, incrementally increase the arc as speed decreases, so when at a standstill it is not limited.  It is silly that you can't thrust left or right when stopped, especially with the lighter lances.

- Horse corpses would still have weight and would knock over people in their path until they come to a stop.

I guess Walt_F4 has never tried cav  8-)

With riding affecting both top speed and acceleration, you could do some different tests like time between fixed points when at top speed, and then time from a stopped point to a fixed point.  I suppose maneuverability could be some kind of turning radius test when at full speed, hard to measure though.  Almost need people of different skills on the same server with the same horses, have everybody do a full speed turn and see where they end up.

You could do a fixed course with a series of turns for overall time (like air racing), but the variability would seem to be high without a huge number of runs, can't see the small % difference very easily.

Yes, the webpage screen shows the higher prices which are not correct...  And now there is no cost total shown in-game either, so it is a pain for a single girl trying to keep on a shoe budget!!

Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: HA-Horsearcher build guide

I have been thinking about this too... If you can't beat 'em, join 'em...

I have written down what HAs from 18-18, 15-21, 12-24 would look like, but I don't know what the successful HAs use.  I figure you need at least 4 PD, and all the riding you can get.  Is going up to 4 HA worth it or not?  Converting 8 points of skills for a 15-24 build, sacrificing Ath and PS?  Who needs Ath if you're on a horse?

I was also wondering if anyone was down-converting some attributes back into skills.  15-18 or 12-21 lets you have significant amounts of PS and even IF or shield if wanted, more of a hybrid.

I got it last night, so it certainly isn't skill or K:D related  :P
I did still get equipment repairs after the event, but possibly none of the big stuff?

My natural flowing blonde locks have changed with the patch.  It's like, pure black now.  No amount of dye can change it, the hair color slider doesn't make any difference.  The hair style can change but not the color, other than turning grey with age (ewww).  Any ideas?
