I wouldn't purposely nerf myself and stick to shorter swords if there's better alternatives, but I definitely want to go with a quick in-an-out kinda guy, shield bash my way in, stab, back out.
It's my favourite strategy for sieges, works great on native for defending doorways etc.

Sup guys, relatively new to this mod.

Would it be a viable tactic to use a large shield + short stabbing sword, sort of Roman tactics, in this?
Or would I just end up overwhelmed by longer ranged 2h weapons most of the time?

Can my characters speed be boosted enough to get within range and cause damage?
