Casting Collective are looking for oriental horse riders (and martial artists, swordsmen (women?), archers).
You should still be able to register at www.castingcollective.co.uk

the shoot is from April and lasts about 9 months. details about pay and their cut of 15% is all on the website.

Whilst Mount and Blade isn't realistic, you'll at least get some movie experience to argue from in the forums!

Oh and the main star is Keanu Reaves.

General Discussion / Re: How to use a Charger?
« on: January 14, 2011, 10:16:56 pm »
You keep saying you have no wpf in 1H.

What does that mean? Are you saying you have no speed with the 1H weapon and they will out-swing you and hit you first?

But you are the one with a faster mount. You decide the clash point and can time it with your slow low wpf swing. The damage is still controlled by power strike. You can also bump and slash.

Pre-patch, I got equal number of kills to my bow (with wpf about 125)  with only 50 1H (I'm a horse archer) as well as lance (only 1 wpf) because I decided the engagement.

Admittedly I haven't been able to afford a Charger/plated elephant yet and only wearing light leather, I'd be a elevated arrow magnet before I could close to use said light lance and 1H (Liuyedao).
Are you saying that post patch the charger speed is nerfed to the amount where you can't control the distance to get them to miss but you to hit, or that even after a bump, your 1H weapon speed due to wpf 1 is too slow to get a hit?

That's because they're using modern day swords...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hfLZozBVpM
There's a LOLSTAB at 4:00!!!
And just before it, there's the whirl the sword around ya head trick!

Damn, if only ColdSteel did archery stuff and not just thrown axes and thrown spears! I'm sure I could make a case to chadz for some unbelievable bodkins!

Oh and Feedback on the patch v210

My buddy is complaining that his top of the range siege xbow costs so much to upkeep.
He doesn't have any riding so I don't believe he's got a valid point.
My upper mid level Sarranid horse costs 1000 in upkeep. His ultimate Xbow is slightly less.

So don't change upkeeps without bearing in mind the entire range please!

Announcements / Re: more chadzhate incoming - heirloom theft

There are certain people who are arguing this compensation for heirloomed items should be gen based because they sold them.

However, it hardly seems fair that they enjoyed the cash they got from this unless they are all willing to pay it back?

God, they sound like bankers with their bonuses!

And no, I don't want em to pay it back, cos then they'd be like whinging students about tuition fees and there'll be some argument that they can't pay it back until they can achieve a particular level of K/D ratio.

General Discussion / Re: So....forget about riding a mid-tier horse now?
« on: January 11, 2011, 12:47:10 pm »
Actually, the main factor affecting Horse usage is the riding skill! It's now 1/3 AGI whereas previously it was 1/6.
It previously meant once you dehorsed some tincan, he became a 2H wielding whirling dervish of death. Whereas on the horse he was just a juggernaut but at least he was above the crowd and easy to target!
Now lots of people can enjoy horse riding!

Regarding Cavalry counters, yes the pike or other long polearms. There's this magical aura about a long pointy stick that just makes the horse riders veer away...!

But my preference for countering cavalry is a good HA or two. And whilst they do have horse costs, at least they can operate with leather armour to keep costs down. Unfortunately, HA is still 1/6 AGI so to get HA3 (where it starts being effective) you need 18AGI. But at that level, you can get Riding 6 which gives you the option once you are outta arrows to trample on and on and on and on and on!

General Discussion / Re: Arrow Damage Type
« on: January 06, 2011, 12:18:29 pm »
One of the changes in the patch is a reduction in the shield "force field".

Archers should now be able to shoot around shields easier ie shoot the feet/head.

A friend of mine has a steel buckler and is now thinking of using something else as he gets more hits around it.

Of course, to reliably shoot the feet/head, they have to be that much closer....

So I'm against a change in damage type until the nuances of the patch changes are more widely known.

The new archer animation is cool. Reminds me of English Warbows video where 150 pound longbows are being used.
However I'm undecided about the archery accuracy nerf.
You see, the Shield area has been reduced. I'm getting better headshots/legshots around shields now. Which also indicates that it's not inaccurate if I'm able to hit what I'm aiming at. OTOH, if I'm that close it should be fairly accurate!
BTW 132 archery level 25.

Oh and a friend of mine was whinging about how slow his archer was, but with his main character (a thrower) was complaining about the arrow storm on a siege map - lol.

I think someone else's post about waiting at least 2 weeks is a good idea.

The reduced riding skill is good (only 1/3 AGI instead of 1/6). means most of the tincans on a horse won't be whirling 2h dervishes when they fall off as they don't need 36 agi to afford the mamluk.
More people other than tin cans will have horses though, but that's also balanced by the friendly trample implementation.

That increase of horse riders is countered by the cost as most ppl don't realise how expensive horses are!! 20k for a saranid horse = 4k upkeep! and that's only riding 4 requirement. it's definitely my biggest expense!

regards upkeep, make both winning and losing sides have upkeep. However that makes the winning teams only bonus the multiplier which means they will drag out the next round.... perhaps slightly reduced upkeep the winning team??

General Discussion / Re: A suggestion
« on: January 06, 2011, 10:50:45 am »
Yeah, I second that suggestion. Wear and tear should be applied to everybody regardless of which side wins. The winners already get a bonus from the multiplier.
However, making the only benefit of winning being a reward for dragging out the next round (cos you got a nice 5x bonus every x mins) doesn't sound great.

General Discussion / Re: New patch- changes, bugs, hints and strategies

Something of note regarding horses.
Whilst the Riding has been reduced to 1/3 of AGI, the Horse Archery has remained at 1/6 of AGI.

I would think with the respec and the new requirements of horses (war horses etc are all requirement 5, the Elephants are 6), most tin cans will be quite different from pre-patch. Pre-Patch an elephant would need 36 AGI. Down the horse and you have a very angry and fast tin can chopping at ya!
I'm not sure where they'll put their attribute points (or more likely, their spare skill points) but we should be seeing a lot more horse riders now that the bar has been lowered.

Doh, should have done this before.

Increased my AGI to 6, was allowed to have Riding 2  ... So it is Riding 1/3 AGI
HOWEVER... only allowed HA 1 with AGI 6. So HA = 1/6 AGI??

I was reluctant to spend as my attribute spread was such that I would have had to spend 12 AGI before to get 2 Riding which would have meant only 9 ST. Now I can have Riding 2, AGI 6 and STR 12 for PD4...

Hmmm, interesting balance from before in the way it affects horse riders. Prior to patch, any cataphract rider or above was a 2H whirling Dervish due to a high AGI requirement (about 30 or 36 AGI!). Now they will be AGI 15 or 18.
Looks like with the HA being 1/6 AGI, the whirling dervishes will be the dismounted HAs as no-one else needs it....

Unfortunately I'm still trying to make a HA so I'll post another topic on how I find that, post patch (i only reached the *heights* of PD6 and Riding 3 HA 3 with 18 STR and 18 AGI being level 29 - I'm now level 20).

The new equipping of horses shows changed requirements. Even the lowly Sumpter Horse has a requirement of 2.
Does that mean 12 AGI is still the requirement ( 1/6 AGI = 2 riding or 2 Horse Archery) or has the riding/horse archery been reset to 1/3 AGI like the other skills?
Sumpter Requirement = 2 (needs 12 AGI or 6)
Rouncey/Palfrey/Steppe/Desert = 3 (needs 18 AGI or 9)
Courser/Sarranid/Destrier = 4 (needs 24 AGI or 12)
War/Large War/Catphract/Charger = 5 (needs 30 AGI or 15)
Mamluk/Plated = 6 (needs 36 AGI or 18)

update - riding = 1/3 AGI, horse archery = 1/6 AGI (see my post below for comment)
