An absolutely valid point, and something that has been subject of discussions and development from day 1. I will elaborate on that on another point, but yes, it's possible, with limitations (server borders, my biggest beef with the entire concept, but a necessary evil)
So it would be like an MMORPG conept where the entire map and everyone in it is loaded as you move through the world? Though still being able to contact everyone who is on the server but not loaded in your area?
I'd love to hear your take on this.

I think there's a model in the Full Invasion 2 mod for it, try and find the source of that to make the thread more compelling. Not sure if the model quality is high enough for C-rpg standards though, you'll have to check that out yourself.

And if I may ask, why a LARP sword? I think a normal one would do the trick just nicely.

Cheers

sword and no shield isn't really or dagger in the off hand isn't really historical though(soz my history sense is getting tingly). In civilian use something like a rapier was used on it's own, but in battles and sieges, not so much, there's no point not bringing anything else to the fray.

Not that historical authenticity is everything, just pointing it out.

Have a nice day chaps

The fuck? Templars were known to wear white capes with their plate armour.
In the time period the templars were a big thing, they didn't have plate armour, so no. Maybe parade armours in later periods for the grand master but not for normal men at arms.
EDIT: Capes are things people would wear on a daily bases, but not when going into a battle. A cape would get in the way a lot and if you want a cape to protect you from rain and cold, which is what they were used for, they'd need to be thick, so heavy. Extra weight kills you in battle.

I don't think we should keep the devs working on crpg forever, I know crpg is an everlasting game for most of the people still active, but the game has lost its playebase, popularity and activity for the most part. The glorious days where the siege and battle servers were full are over. I think the devs and I personally too want that time back rather than extending the life of crpg a bit longer with a playerbase of 40 on EU1 on evenings. No one's complaining to the devs of bf2 or codWaW to fix things or keep updating, and if there are, then no dev will care. The dawn of a new game is approaching and I am quite willing to wait for that and spend some time playing different games instead of having the devs put costly time and effort into a game that is played by just a few people.
And to the person saying the devs should keep the current players happy for M:BG to succeed: First off, the majority of the costumers the devs should be focussing on is the people who have never heard of cRPG or M:BG, secondly the should focus on the people who, at some point, have played cRPG. and lastly the people still active, because most of those will buy M:BG anyway whether cRPG sucked in the end or not, just to have a new cRPGish game to play *complain about*.
And as Cmp said, this project is the devs', don't act like you own even a tiny bit of it, I have played many mods and I can wholeheartedly say that the Donkey crew are the most loyal devs to their community that I know of. There aren't a lot of mods out there that have a lifespan this big, and I think we should alrready be grateful for just that.
Sorry to let crpg down, but it's just my opinion.

I suggest you take a look at Planetside 2's way of dealing with 2000 players on one map at the same time. They pretty much only load the players who are in your area.
Territory-control and capturing territories is also something interesting in PS2, have a look at it.
Lastly, something I think the devs of PS2 have incorporated very well in their game is to make specific parts of the map more wanted at random times, PS2 does this by giving you more resources if you capture a specific part of the map at a random time, this concentrates the battles more and makes for more enjoyment.

Could you specify more on perma-death? I hate losing my progress and I usually GTX if the consequences are high.

I remember that back when WotR was announced, a lot of the focus was on the things which set it aside from other games alike. For example the mini-games which were embedded into the ranged weaponry(so no random shots would be fired as is the case in M&B), they also put their spotlights on the incredible accurate hit registration(which in M&B sucks). Overall polish was also a big thing, again missing from M&B. They didn't actually mention the things that were missing in the competition's games but managed to get an excited audience anyway. Melee needs to have more things setting it aside from the things we already have, stronghold is one of them, 360* combat is also a point(but might scare people off because it sounds so hard to control, which is also being emphasised by the devs in the video) and the big ass scale is alos great, but I feel that there could be more focus on more new and innovative features.
Make people drool over the immense sieges that take place: give them goosebumps from seeing fifty players form a shieldwall to protect the archers, let them see a siege tower full of fierce warriors jump over the wall and wreck havoc, see how awsome a mass cavalry charge can be(and how scary if you're targeted by one), let countless arrows fly passt a characters ears. give emotion to the clips you guys make. That is the reason I bought M&B in the first place, I got so excited to possibly be one of the guys jumping over the battlements the brutally slaughter the archers scum hiding behind them, show emotion in the clips, I think that is key. Unfortunately, is this stage of the developement it is very difficult to make someone feel that fire start to burn deep inside them, because it is so early on. After having seen al the clips you guys made, my opinion is that everything still looks very bland and not smooth, the game needs polishing.
Maybe to show the press some good stuff, try getting one aspect of the game right first, for example 2h duelling, polish it up realy nice, get those specific animations up to a high standard, realise a very small map to go with it, get one specific set of armor out(again, really good one) and let people have a go, this way some vids can alreay be made by some populair youtubers, you get a response on the 360* combat and if done correctly, you might be able to get money out if it. The thing is, imo you guys are doing so many different things at a time, no single part of the game has a really good version of it.

Could have it so each team member gets an equal allowance and can manually select team mates to grant access to it.

Specific team votes would also be helpful - eg. vote to ban someone from operating gates or siege engines if they prove irresponsible. Could be a perma, needing an unban vote to pass, since it would be a lot less restrictive than being banned from the server or from the game.
Though it would prevent trolling, doing this would probably only get clanmates or certain people to build every single round, new people should also be given the chance.
good idea, not having them perform specific tasks that are important is great! though voting usually takes a long time and multiple polls before eveyone realises someone's medding up.

General / Stronghold concern
« on: December 06, 2014, 03:56:13 pm »
First off, let me start by saying Stronghold sounds like the ideal game-mode, it offers RP, combat, siege, strategical thinking, more persistence and lots of freedom to build the castle you want. My great concern with this mode however, is that I see numerous opportunities for trolls to take advantage of people who want to play the game-mode as intended. How will a team manage to use all the resource points to build one castle instead of 20 different people all wanting their plan to be executed? How will you make sure some *sshole isn't going to deliberately spend all the resources on building five gatehouses next to each other just because he can? The lack of a anti-troll/anti-noob mechanic for artillery and sapping is one of the reasons Napoleonic Wars failed imo. There are pretty much four types of people in NW when you look at sappers and artillery, which in M:BG will be the exact same case. There is the innocent noob who is trying out all the different kinds of props and ammo and this way waisting resources, you can't really get mad with this kid. Then there is the obvious troll who is putting planks up all around just to f*ck with everyone else. Also there is the "pro" who thinks he knows everything, is constantly CAPSing in the chat about how wrong everyone else is placing stuff and destroying all but his creations. Last but not least there are the clan members who, generally speaking, know what they are doing and are just trying to help their team/clan the best they can. in Crpg we have seen similar things with ladder placing back in the day. you might say admins would be able to solve the problem, but with the intended 200 player servers, admins struggle to keep an eye on everything.
I think the Stronghold game-mode is a very good pro for this game and is an important feature to differentiate M:BG from other games alike, but being such a complicated game-mode, which makes it such a great concept, could also become its downfall. I think the press is also aware of this and it might slow promotion and funding down. I don't know if you guys already have solved these kinds of problems for Stronghold, but if you have, sharing them would bring good things I think.

To be specific, those quotes are the Alliance Footman from Warcraft 3.
Ahh, he's the one who said:"My life for the Horde!"
