This is what i'm trying for a hoplite :

I use this gear :
- Huscarl's Round Shield or Elite Cavalry Shield if i use the horse
- War Spear
- Nordic Short War Sword
- Empty slot

- Barbutte
- Lamellar Vest or nothing, or a tunic, something just to cover nudity.
- Nomad Boots or nothing
- No hand armor

Eventually, a horse, with that build.

I would like to have a throwing weapon in the last slot, to complete the character, but that would do a 3 hybrids man...
Probably after my retirement, i'll give up riding for power throw.
The war spear is absolutely needed for a hoplite. And the short nordic sword is what i think the closest weapon to a hoplite's sword, for close combat.

The look is pretty cool, and enough agi to move decently, even with the huscarl's shield. I don't really feel the lack of range with the short sword, thanks to the footwork.
Horse, that's just because i wanted one whit one of my characters ^^' but i won't really use it for battle. That's why i'll see for power throw next retirement.

Advices ?

So my next Str build will have athletics and do the same damage as my 12 PS build and have almost the same amount of health as my 12 IF build.... Sounds good, I like being able to move normal speed and still one hit everyone I come into contact with.. xD

No, because if i understand what they said, you won't have any bonus for 11-12 power strike, but for 12 power strike, you'll need 36 str. and each point in str will grow your health and damage.
A build with 33 or 36 str will be more powerfull than a build with 30. you can go for a 36 str build, but stay at 10 with PS.

Am i right ?

Only a try, but for now, pretty effective on siege maps, as a defenser.
Noone shall pass the ladder i chose to stand above, shield or not (heavy throwing axes). one hit for the most, sometime two hits if really armored, or if i hit legs.

I really don't know if i'm aiming this build :

Or if i'm going to put some points into agility...
i'm really slow, and i have some problems to react when ennemy come to melee.
The unused point will probably go into IF or PS... sometimes, i manage to kill someone with the secondary mode of my axes.

I use Heavy throwing axes, 3 sets, ans a poor shield, to protect from arrows or faster melee fighters.
when i'll have more money, i'll take a good armor, i think, but being so slow won't really be cool...

Any advice ?

I'm using firefox, and it doesn't work for me either. You just have to log off and put in the new character name and password.

Same thing for me, with firefox 3.6. Just log out, and log on with your other char

The game offers very realistic weapons. I play the game for his realism.

think. In 1257, and around, could you see this kind of weapon ?
Take your xbow, or change game/mod.

I always take a good weapon, no head armor, leather gloves and boots, and a simple tunic (you can change color according to the map :D).
And this, with every character i play, may he be an archer, a 2handers, a cav...

it depends on the skin you take.

In CRPG, there are two white skins, one allows you to chose "strange" colours for your hair.
By the way, this is totally unreal, and this hair are very... spottable from far.

EDIT : you have to take a female character.

Sorry, i forgot to vote for this admin... i still think that giving players the right to remove admins is pure crap.
chadz, it's your role, yours, and other admins' role. Most of the players just can't be neutral. Particulary those that will come for voting.
For this reason, every time i'll come in this forum, i'll vote "No". No admin should lose his powers from a players'vote.

I never tried, but what about steam account ?
I bought the game with his box, and when i installed it, he used steam directly, whith the CD-key.
If i had to play with an other PC, i think i would install steam, connect with my own steam account, and re-install the game.
It should work, no ?

I'll keep playing archer because i like it, that's challenge, i prefer that than melee fights.
But by now, perform a kill is pretty hard. When you hit an ennemy, and i insist on the "When", it just stuns him for... 1 or 2 seconds.
On the left text, the only kills i see made with a bow are on peasants, or very low armored guys.

I like this game for being realistic. I used to like this mod because it was bringing more realism.
But now, i'm forced to admit that archery in this mod is not like in reality at all. It seems that now, we have hundreds of Boromir-like in front of us. No,n those guys are even better than Boromir (yep, remember, Boromir, him, died after 3 arrows... You think that's unreal ? Well, look at Crpg...).

I don't really know who can make modifications on the mod, but could he inquire about history and realism ? i understand that he has to test some things in order to get a balanced game, but mount & blade is one of my favorite games because of his realism. His respect to the true, to history. Should balance be more important than realism ? well, my choice is clear, i vote for realism, that's the game's soul. Keep looking for balance, but beware about realism in the next patch, would be appreciated. Don't fall into excess.

EDIT : I also noticed that some of my shots were simply passing threw the ennemy, without any dammage or stun effect. maybe lag ? that was my first opinion...

Thats good no more archers shooting unstopably.

And more realistic. Archers couldn't bring so many arrows in battles. Most part of the time, they stay behind, in range, on a line, with a pack of dozen arrows at their feet. Very few archers were wearing a quiver, and quivers never contained a lot of arrows.

And the bow that should have the longest range is the English long bow, not an other.
