Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: Difference between 5 PD and 6 PD?
« on: August 24, 2011, 01:08:59 am »
Power draw (PD) adds to your damage. I don't remember if it adds 14%, 16% or 18%.

PD negatively impacts your weapon proficiency (WPF) but the formula is super secret black magic. WPF also adds to your damage, but the potential loss of damage from decreased WPF is more than balanced out by having more PD.

Native was balanced.

Then cRPG came. People wanted to wear full plate and use giant 2H swords without shields. In Native, 2H are countered by cavalry and archers. 2H spammers complained and refused to go 1H/shield to counter archers. Archery got nerfed. Then cavalry were too powerful because archers couldn't counter them and no one wanted to bring pikes. So they nerfed cavalry. And Archery got nerfed again just for the hell of it. Then throwing weapons were the only counter to 2H spam left so they got nerfed too. And then they nerfed archery a few more times. And now everyone runs around in heavier armor with a big weapon and a crossbow, or a medium weapon and a sniper crossbow. And the devs think this is okay because they think kill statistics are meaningful without usage statistics.

Eye Beat Women.

I'd ban him for that name, myself. Might as well just make your name "Eye Beat Jews" or something. Misogyny is okay but racism is bad, amIright?

yeah, it takes one less hit for you to die or one more hit for him to die, that is really HUGE disadvantage...

If they die in 3 hits and you die in 5 AND you are faster? Yes. Huge advantage.

Damatacus is mid 30s, and the few extra levels really make a difference.

Not to mention completely heirloomed bow, arrows, armor, and teeth. (Damatacus uses his masterwork teeth to catch arrows when you try to headshot him.)

Thread zombie +1!

Why does we have this slow grind?

Why cant we keep the 100+exp, after each retirement?
why do we have to stick to 30+exp, after each retirement?

*im curious*

Please increase the exp after retirement! :(

If anything it should be the other way around. Give new players more experience when they are new so they get a few heirlooms faster.

The problem was you wanted to play cavalry. You see if your class has a leg up on 2H/polearm spammers who run around out in the open without a shield thinking they should own everyone, you need to be nerfed. It's the cRPG way.

Archers? Nerfed.
Throwing? Nerfed.
Cavalry? Nerfed.

Native is more balanced than this! -.-

^^This.

Here's how cRPG is balanced: 2H/polearm spam > God.

I STF'd again today and tested a new character. I took screenshots each time I raised HA, PD, or WPF (in 10 point increments) on my way to a 21/18 horse archer build designed to see if the yumi could be worth using. After hours of tedious testing and screenshots, what did I discover?

Not a lot. :?

It seems like I was unable to get an accuracy increase on any bows as I went over the PD requirement this time. Mild differences in screenshots could be errors on my part in spite of me taking a half dozen screenshots or more attempting to capture an accurate reticule. In fact, I pretty much always lost a little bit of accuracy as I increased PD above the requirement. It's as if on my last character something magical happened when I finally reached PD8 on a 24/18 build.

So my nonsensical conclusion is that PD decreases accuracy a very small amount unless you have PD8, at which point you get a nice bonus over someone who has PD5 and similar WPF.

And for horse archers, HA4 is definitely a must.

For now it really does seem like the standard archer builds are the best.

1. Skirmisher: 15 Str, 24 Agi. 5 PS, 5 Ath, 5 PD, 8 WM. Melee WPF.
2. Horse Archer: 15 Str, 24 Agi. 4 HA, 6 Riding, 5 PD, 8 WM.
3. Dedicated Archer: 24 Str, 18 Agi. 3 Ath, 8 PD, 6 WM.

After hours of work for nothing informative, I give up on further testing; it'd be nice if some dev would give us the formula.

This is also a subtle way to stall the level treadmill that will eventually see some players at level 35 from having a significant advantage over newer players who won't see anything above 30 for a long time as they have to retire a zillion times for heirlooms. Or it helps newer players compete with those super high level players by halting the treadmill and giving them slightly better gear to compensate.

I used to hate cavalry to the very core of my being, but I always accepted they were an integral part of the game. Lately I've been playing one in cRPG and I do feel like the current solution to the old circle-and-poke isn't the best. Circle-and-poke is rather silly, but I agree with the OP here: the issue isn't the angle at which cavalry could strike with polearms, it was their perfect maneuverability and acceleration that allowed them to stay just out of reach the entire time they did it coupled with just how easily they can bump you.

I feel like cavalry need to be better than they are out in the open, and I feel like their proper counters on open fields need to be limited to organized infantry with missiles and pikes, not two-handed swords and other silly things. If cavalry were ever OP and needing to be nerfed, it was only because missiles were UP. I feel like cRPG caters too heavily to the two-handed crowd, too many of which think they ought to be effective in all situations. Their counters were always cavalry and missile fire, which got nerfed quite a lot harder than they ever did. (And they all carry crossbows now too. Sigh.)

I'm not turning this into an anti-two-handed rant, just observing the culture of cRPG as I see it and wishing that both cavalry were given a buff. And then archers were given a buff so that they could properly counter cavalry.
