Then how do you simulate people being in fear of dying? I understand and agree that a dumb message or a bar lowering to zero would be kinda lame, but that suicidal lemming rambo behaviour has to stop in order to create a proper battle.

I wholeheartedly agree. While I love cRPG, and am quite good in lemming rambo charging, I'd like a different take on medieval combat.

You punish dying. People in DayZ fear (feared) death, because if they died it meant a lot of running and the loss of their carefully scavenged gear, so it's very possible to do that in a video game. The problem with stuff like that is that the only real punishment you can use in cRPG and MBG is boredom, i.e forcing people to wait 4 minutes before respawning. It definitely works, people do play more careful in Battle than Deathmatch. But you can only make it so severe before people stop playing.

I very much disagree. There are already other mechanics in place, such as the speed bonus. You already get a penalty for walking backward, you could also get a penalty for being outnumbered - or maybe a penalty for swings but a boost for blocks. The latter would simulate "your seasoned warrior wants to live".

Another possibility would be to add stamina effects in the game. If you do lots of rambo lemming stuff, the character becomes tired, and gets a speed penalty in everything. This would encourage slower group action and discourage wild spamfests and kamikaze-dashes (which are nowadays the best way to have most fun = action in cRPG, because your remaining lifetime on battlefield can't be increased much, and the archers will kill you soon anyway).

I'd be excited about relevant changes in gear: perhaps (some) armor could be weaker from behind, or perhaps damage could be increased if the target doesn't see the swings (ie. can't prepare for them). Perhaps heavy plate mail could survive almost infinite "bad" hits (bows, melee weapons that hit a strong point in the armor) but make its wearer tired more quickly.

Also, what's wrong with losing gear when you die alone in a hopeless place? ;).

And then, changing the respawn time (OR distance) based on what the character "morale" was would be ok for me too.

There are many more options than any of us *can* realise.

I also backed the game, with quite a lot of money :).

I'd put in even more money, if the game engine could be opensourced / licensed to me :).

With the introduced 30-minute castle that just can't be conquered, the ladders might help to balance it. Now the only practical ways to get up to eastern wall are up ladders, above which perfectly protected maulsmen can deal with any invasion.

I can't read any text in game after this last update. Has anyone else experienced this? Any text shows up as solid blocks. Wouldn't be a huge issue really except I can't read what server i'm joining =/

I have the same problem.

Well, I guess I'll just make a habit out of dropping everything at the end of every match, just to be sure. And try to keep a reserve of 10000 gold or so, then start striptease if gold goes under 5000. Btw, it's stupid I always fail to switch to poor gear when we lose and multiplier goes down, but maybe that's just my problem..

I still think it's stupid. There are many possible solutions - maybe keep track on what wps are actually used or anything else.

My cheapest loadout is 29 k, and my expensive one is 38 k. With the first one, I make shittons of money, with the second I make slightly money. Its totally not possible to loose money with a loadout thats only 25 k...

You, sir, are much luckier than I am.

I had one game with a 2k loadout. The siege was won in less than 150 seconds (thus only +100 money at 1x), and I paid 110 in repairs.

No, I don't want to legalize leeching. I want to play, and I always do play. Sometimes my naked guy isn't very useful, but hey, what can I do if I run out of reserve money.

I'm not playing Defend the Virgin, but mostly Siege. Which seems to be costly sometimes, especially when levels are quickly won. I mostly like to play with a 25k build (I'm level 31 now), and try to keep 5000 money as a reserve. But yes, as I wrote this, I had managed to come down from ~5000 to almost nothing with a 25k build. So I started saving using a 2k build (red tunic, knobbed mace, leather covered shield) and still managed to lose money at times. I was almost up to 4000, when two looted items cost me ~1200 money again. With 1x, money doesn't pile up very fast. And the cheapest weapons are also almost useless, that's why I try to use looted ones.

The point about teammate weapon-swapping is a good one. So maybe the good approach is to remove looted weapons between games! I don't care if I don't get to keep a sweet weapon I don't own (and don't get to keep anyways for much longer).

Sometimes I have really bad luck, get to pay thousands, and drop to 200 money. So I start saving money, and playing without equipment. Then I want to pick up stuff from dead guys. Logical, right! But if a siege ends while I'm still alive and holding some piece of equipment, then next round I may have to pay to repair it. This happened to me twice now. It happened, even when I immediately dropped the gear at the start of next game.

Am I meant to play hours with only fists, or what?

I think this is very silly. Please fix it. If nothing else, make gear disappear between matches. Please.

cRPG Technical problems / Re: Bow bug??
« on: August 19, 2011, 08:54:36 am »
There's still the bow bug.

I have STR 12 AGI 12, Archery proficiency 57, power draw 2.

The bow called "Bow" tells me my proficiency is not high enough. It has difficulty 2.

This sucks big time. Wasting my few points of exp should not be trial-and-error.
