cRPG Technical problems / ''Alternate'' to Main

Greetings,
I've been playing on my alternate character only, and just now I realised it was just an alt and I was unable to play strategus due to this. My main character is some shit lvl1 which I never really played, and just now I feel extremely stupid to just realise that I will have to create a brand new character to have as main, even though my ''alt'' have been acting like my main character throughout my ENTIRE cRPG 'career'.
Is there any kind of exception to this? I'd love to have my 'alt' as my main 'on the paper'. I've alway treated my alt as my main, and it just angers me that I've spent so much time into the character and just now realise it's not my main technically.

Edit: My 'alt' main is level 29. Such a pisstake for me to do it all over again in order to play properly in strategus, etc.
