I like to live with my mistakes, and use them to adapt my gameplay.

If you click something by accident, it's unfortunate, but it won't make much difference overall. Make a choice and stick with it!

If you've gone down a route (archery for example (I am an archer and proud!)) and decided you don't like it or you feel it's underpowered, then tough. Reroll... you be at level 20 again in a couple of days! As you mentioned, it's the new players that make mistakes, and if they are new, then starting over isn't so bad!

cRPG Technical problems / Re: Animation lag
« on: January 08, 2011, 04:47:47 pm »
I posted something recently on this forum about it.  It happens to me as a n archer 1-2 times every round, ususally only once becuase it means I cant shoot and the guy charging me easily kills me when the firing trigger with new animation doesnt work or has a cazy half-second delay that makes shot go widde.

This.

Just about as often as you too... when strafing trying to kill another archer I've had it about to shoot, then reset... I release the clicker and nothing happens (and this isn't because I've been hit).

I think we need a new "Better before or after" poll... I think generally people are alot happier now... aside from the people with really bad grammar.

cRPG Technical problems / Auto Team Balance
« on: January 08, 2011, 05:43:59 am »
Playing on a siege map, the 5th game in (it was 2-2 up until this point - so it wasn't that one team was doing incredibly well) the defending team had just 3 players after an autobalance. The sixth game was back to normal again...

EDIT: Oh I forgot to mention the attacking team had around 37!

Why do you say things like that?

Heck, just starting peasants off with a shield would go a long way. I know that a peasant can buy cheap gear pretty much after 1 or 2 games, the problem is that most new characters like to stick around for several games so they have some actual experience and money to spend when they log out and risk losing their spot on the server.

Also, another thing: Not everyone plays cRPG for the grind, so don't think that having a huge grind is a desirable gameplay feature (obvious, but some people in this thread seem to think otherwise). Being able to build a character and see how it fares in M&B combat is cool, and cRPG offers a lot more customization than native MP. That's why people like it! Being a peasant offers no customization at all, you're the same jerk with a pitchfork as every other peasant, and even if you buy some gear you're still useless until you have enough stat points to meaningfully distribute (and even then, you're probably still useless).

With the latest patch, they don't need to log out to put their new stuff on. There are about 50 body armour items alone which are less than the 100 starting gold, which is just about as many as body armour over 100 gold. I don't personally feel it is a huge grind at the moment, I went from 1 to 28 in just a couple of days and I don't feel all that much more useful/useless than I did to begin with - the 1-30 helps new players learn the game, or new characters learn their new class. What I feel cRPG did right was that simply landing a hit on a player as a peasent felt like a victory, you don't have to have a huge K:D each round to be a valuable member of the team.

I know "servers arn't cheap" and all that, but perhaps the level 25 thing can be done on a seperate server. That would be (or I would guess) easier to work with, plus you know that you are testing your build on opponents who arn't in tincans or just wearing peasent armour. Also... gold would be needed for these characters... and the figure you choose for this needs to reflect what you would earn/spend in "regular mode".

Game Balance Discussion / Re: My views on archery.

I don't find the Khergit bow too bad for accuracy, though I don't get all that many kills (though that may be because I've only been playing a few days)

I do get alot of hits though. I played for a couple of hours before the new patches came in, but didn't get to use the bow so I can't really compare how it was to how it is now.

My point setup for anyone interested:

You say grind... but it's not like you are doing anything different to a "normal" player.

We all charge in, sometimes we manage a few kills, other times we struggle to get one during the entire map (well I do at least!)

You don't have to hide down alleyways or in haystacks hoping to grab a kill... you can still do alot.

At level 27, I still rarely come out with a positive K:D (perhaps I'm just really bad) but I have a lot of fun, and some of my best moments have been as bait whilst a team-mate guts 'em from behind.

I don't think it should start from anything but 1.

I don't think the mod was ever meant to be funny... though I did laugh after I set up a ladder against a wall (going absolutely nowhere) and 6 people walked up it one after the other... It was like Lemmings...

General Discussion / Re: A case for the 20% upkeep
« on: January 06, 2011, 10:52:11 pm »
At the end of the day, adjusting upkeep is merely going to create a budget.

There will be a winners budget and a losers budget, though most will pick a budget in the middle.

This budget will be based on the repair costs and chance that the item will break. I'm not going to do the math but it's not difficult to work out a formula.

Whatever the budget comes to is the collective price of what we will see the players wearing, the majority of players.

As we have seen over the last couple of days, a low/zero upkeep will encourage heavy armor and heavy cavalry. We've also seen people freak out and go naked because they feel the upkeep is too high.

The actual figure of the upkeep is trivial, because it's still going to ecourage people down a certain path.

Could anyone post the wpp cost list...?

Like 1-80=1, 80-100=2 etc etc

1-50 = 1
51-75 = 2
75-? = 3 (That's as far as I got respeccing another char)
