Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: Post Your Character Builds
« on: September 08, 2011, 06:48:57 am »
Strength: 18
Agility: 21
Hit points: 53
Skills to attributes: 8
Ironflesh: 0
Power Strike: 6
Shield: 4
Athletics: 7
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 6
One Handed: 130
Two Handed: 1
Polearm: 106

Should I sacrifice a shield point to go for 120 in polearm? I wouldn't use the shield in one on one combat, only when going hoplite.

Heavy armour is almost useless with low HP.

A full-plated peasant is still a peasant. I have no problem facing a level 20 guy with black armor and a cataphract. As soon as they get level 26 (that is quickly to get) the bonus end so I don't see any problem on giving an advantage to newbies.
Because a lot of the people doing that aren't new. They're just constantly respeccing and using top tier equipment.

1. Lower the upkeep free threshold to 20
25 is too high, I'm seeing people riding around on plated chargers with morningstars, plate shields and churburg armour while I'm relegated to riding a palfrey with robes, a great lance, a practice shield and my langes messer (so I can actually compete). Alternatively the upkeep free time could only apply to weapons, while horses and armour still get upkeep as per usual.
At the current level it is basically exploiting.

2. Double exp/ gold weekends
I've noticed some new players whining about the grind so this could be an enticing way to keep them playing. It would also mean smaller communities (e.g. AU) would get to experience high player counts for once as there would be more people playing (hopefully). Of course it wouldn't be every weekend.

Game Balance Discussion / Buff the Grosse Messer
« on: September 04, 2011, 03:42:41 am »
The Grosse Messer as it stands is a decent weapon. However when you compare it to other 1h weapons it just doesn't compare.

Grosse Messer
weapon length: 85
weight: 1.3
difficulty: 11
speed rating: 99
weapon length: 85
thrust damage: 19 pierce
swing damage: 34 cut
slots: 1
7,410

Langes Messer
weapon length: 92
weight: 1.8
difficulty: 12
speed rating: 98
weapon length: 92
thrust damage: 23 pierce
swing damage: 33 cut
slots: 1
Secondary Mode
7,517

So you're sacrificing 1c and 1 speed for 7 range 4p and a secondary mode?

Arabian Cavalry Sword
weapon length: 105
weight: 1.3
difficulty: 13
speed rating: 95
weapon length: 105
thrust damage: 19 pierce
swing damage: 33 cut
slots: 1
6,900

Again sacrificing 1c and 4 speed for a huge increase of 20 range.

Niuweidao
weapon length: 88
weight: 1.5
difficulty: 10
speed rating: 101
weapon length: 88
thrust damage: 0 pierce
swing damage: 32 cut
slots: 1
6,058

Sacrificing 2c and a thrust for 3 more range, 2 more speed and $1400 less.

Military Cleaver
weapon length: 92
weight: 2.5
difficulty: 14
speed rating: 96
weapon length: 92
thrust damage: 0 pierce
swing damage: 35 cut
slots: 1
5,655

You get 1c and 7 more range in exchange for 3 less speed.
I think it should be buffed up to 21p and given a secondary mode, speeding it up would render the Italian Falchion useless. There are other weapons that need to be buffed but this is one that has stood out.

Game Balance Discussion / Re: Cavalry is clearly way overpowered
« on: September 04, 2011, 03:21:27 am »
Cav is easy mode and allways have been just increase the price on horses so players cant take em out for a spin 24/7
Please raise the prices of bows too. Archers should not be able to use their bows 24/7.
And please but a price on health so STR based 2her's can't play their class effectively either.

Overall yes, however there are a few things that could be improved. Cav needs to be looked at (not nerfed or buffed), I think horses need to be more resilient towards arrows, perhaps buffing armour but nerfing HP so throwers and polearms are still effective against it. People only notice cav top scoring when they are top scoring, they don't notice the horses dying to 2 hornbow arrows or the weeks of grinding you need to do just to be able to ride a horse. 2h cav also needs some love.
Biggest issue is the frequency of patches and the lack of transperancy, I'd like to see devs commenting on people's suggestions and involving the community more. Though they are definitely more involved than most devs.

Suggestions Corner / Re: ALT Marketplace
« on: August 31, 2011, 12:40:12 am »
The no marketplace thing for alts is so that you cannot transfer money between chars, if there was a market place for alts it would be pointless, money and items would still get transfered.
What exactly is the problem with that? Even if it was a problem I'm sure that it would be possible for trading on the same CD key to be stopped.

This is definitely needed. It's ridiculous that my main can make hundreds of thousands of dollars through the marketplace while my alts are stuck grinding with no alternative. This is especially frustrating with a cav alt.

10 IF and 10 PS will give you 3 shield skill at most, not much of a turtle, eh?
Did you read the OP?

This would, I think, make it the longest reaching practical hoplite weapon which could still be used on horseback.
Bamboo spear is longer and can (against the rules) be used on horseback
