Maybe some dev can awnser your second question. I've already sent a mail to Gabe Newell praising cRPG and begging for a valve supported cRPG 2, but I'm afraid that's just a bit of naive optimism on my part. Steam supported cRPG2 with a brand new high budget engine would be awesome though.

Since plural implies more than singular.
You bring up a legimate respectively a weak point of the warband combat system in general: there is no close combat. In a real battle there will be situations where you grab each others neck, and the use of daggers and the like would be necessary.
However its difficult to implement such mechanics properly in this (and any other) combat enginge and definitely impossible for mods. And the suggestion of disabling block in tight places will lead to much problems and would be only very artificial implementation of close combat.
