Suggestions Corner / Re: Add Breastplates
« on: July 15, 2013, 11:27:18 pm »
The iconic thick-breastplate-and-helmet combo didn't start showing up until the late middle ages when early firearms like the arquebus also began to see widespread use. Normal plate armor was gradually phased out and replaced by thicker breastplates and helmets which offered enough protection to defeat these weapons but were too heavy to wear as a full suit. However as firearms became more advanced even these thick metal armors weren't enough to protect the wearer and armor became largely obsolete - at least until recently.

According to our trustworthy friend Wikipedia, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breastplate) the cuirass (essentially a breast/back plate) was in use throughout 1200 AD and iron/steel breastplates were the standard around 1340 AD, well before the average soldier's use of firearms, which would become commonplace over a century later.

Suggestions Corner / Re: The "Pole Nudge"
« on: July 15, 2013, 10:48:34 pm »
Add a poll so I can vote no.

Most players will have their block ready before the swing is released. If there is a "auto nudge" on every side and overhead swing. Forcing all opponents to re-do their block right before the actual swing even contacts them sounds absurdly overpowered. And the reaction time would probably be too short for players with 100+ pings to be able to regain their blocks at all.

This is all provided that they are facehugging, if the player keeps his/her distance from the polearm, he/she won't have any problems with the nudge. Also, how do I add a poll?

Suggestions Corner / The "Pole Nudge"

Polearms are weapons designed to keep enemies at a distance. In cRPG, a player needs only block once to come within striking range of a polearm user; from then on the effectiveness of the polearm decreases as it has lost the reach advantage (it is worth noting that this advantage is very small with the current 2h thrust animation). I had an idea while watching the right and left swing animations of the Elegant Poleaxe.

Here are two pictures of the Elegant Poleaxe while holding a left-to-right swing:

As you can see, the poleaxe has a blade on the end, that will arc in front of the player before the actual blade comes around. Here is an annotated picture of two pictures laid over each other -- one is the prep swing, and the other is mid swing.

This arc is just long enough to contact any player who is facehugging the polearm user. My suggestion: Any player that is contacted by this arc will be lightly nudged. The nudge is light enough that the nudged player will have time to bring up a block again, but they will have to be quick (or have a very lightweight shield).

This could also be possible with the overhead polearm attack:

EDIT: you guys are right, this suggestion would make polearms way OP. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I accidentally applied for FCC on the Strategus page and I see the color around my character/FCC paths and when I select my character it says I'm in FCC. It doesn't say anything on the Factions page but I want to leave the clan(?) or cancel the application. How do I do this?

Beginner's Help and Guides / Weapon reach
« on: July 14, 2013, 07:49:25 pm »
Could someone explain to me how weapon reach varies between weapons?

I'm currently using a double sided lance with a thrust (length 130) but I seem to always be getting outreached by longswords (length 103). Maybe my footwork is just bad, but I can't seem to ever outreach two handed thrusts. Can anyone explain this?

The Conquistadors would kill for these.

Default Breastplate (Half-Cuirass) from WFAS:

The breastplate is one sexy piece of equipment, and surely belongs in cRPG.

Realism Discussion / Re: Give double sided lance cut damage on swing

why? blunt does more against armoured opponents anyway

Why not? This is the realism forum. The weapon is bladed, so it should have cut damage; if you consider that a nerf then it could have the damage increased slightly.

Here is an image of the double sided lance during a right-to-left swing:

It has a blade there. That's why its a "double sided lance." Why not make it a more unique weapon and give it cut damage? That's all, thank you for reading.

Realism Discussion / FALLING COCONUTS

According to this guy on yahoo answers:

Quote
"Falling coconuts kill 150 people worldwide each year, 15 times the number of fatalities attributable to sharks."

The fact of the matter is, this is a very real hazard that clearly belongs in cRPG. Devs please add.

General Discussion / Satirical, Poorly-Made Profile Picture Thread

Get your somewhat funny, quickly growing old, shitty profile picture! Enjoy a short chuckle as you gaze upon a shitty recreation of your character in a sixteenth of the original pixels. "How much could such a euphoric experience cost?" you might ask -- well, because I have absolutely nothing to do as leechers leech and my teammates can't find them -- absolutely free! That's right, free! See my profile picture? You can have that by simply listing your equipment in a reply below. Do so now!
