Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: archer/2hander

In my opinion 140 isn't enough.  There is a world of difference in aiming between my strength archer:

and the standard melee/archer hybrid:

(click to show/hide)

with regards to aiming.  With 155 wpf I can generally count my arrows to go where I point them at, with 143 there is no aiming involved past medium-range.  Of course, my KDR on my strength archer is higher because when I have melee proficiency I tend to want to use it, which I assume is your goal.

Personally if I'm going archer again I think I'll try some sort of combination of those two builds, with 6 powerdraw and count on heirlooming my war bow to make up for the powerdraw and add ton of wpf.  A long sword with 1 wpf just feels like a short great sword anyway.

[edit]
A funny thing about playing strength archer is because you practically have no wpf in melee, if you use a slow weapon like a great sword (Sword of war personally) you don't really need to do holds because the slowness of the thing throws people off.  Hilarious watching people let go of block halfway in my sword's swing.  Shame it will no longer be viable in the next patch.

On the other hand, it's funny how the hunting and short bow looks bloody enormous.

I remember once when I was an archer I was shooting someone to the far right of my teammate in siege, but there was an enemy crossbowman behind us who shot my teammate.  Said teammate then turned around and killed me in the face while I was pointing my bow at the door checking to see if it broke already.  Did I get an apology?  No.  Do I come to the conclusion that I now need to shoot in every melee fight to 'prove a point?'  No that's silly, stop being silly.

No one will think you're being Just if you turn around and attack someone who accidentally shot you, almost everyone will come to the conclusion however that you're an enormous asshole.  Are you Jason_the_Great or something?  Am I being trolled?  Wait, don't answer that.  This is the cRPG forums, of course I'm being trolled.

Not really seeing how people assume 10 two-handers would win against 10 shielders.  I would think the shielders would win because they could simply exchange who strikes and who blocks.  It's very easy getting your weapon tied up when pressed up by shields, the only way I can see two-handers winning is if the shielders were terrible and were running around with their weapons chambered.  Assuming both sides knew what they're doing, it would seem really unlikely the two-handers would win because in group fights, shields shine.  You can't manual block more than one direction, but if you have a shield well, no need to state the obvious.

Sorry I couldn't reply on steam but that is amazing.  I was going to complain about the lack of a parkour obstacle course but that would way too much effort and might ruin the aesthetic finish your current map already has.

General Discussion / Re: NA or EU? Who's better?
« on: April 13, 2011, 09:29:30 am »
Whenever I play on EU (Granted, usually EU1) it takes me back to the two days I played before The Patch hit.  One team huddled together for survival, the other team doing all the attacking.  Didn't even experience rooftop bundle of sticksry either, no one breaks the ladders which I found totally cool although the sheer swarm of archers on top of said roofs were a bit daunting for a 200 ping 3 strength 31 agility peasant with a torch and a knife.  It's very difficult to say what's better, but I do like DenBitre_Cooties because he plays very well in EU and NA servers.

Feels like more people goof off in NA but since I don't really know the EU scene I feel like I'm not at liberty to judge them at their clowning abilities.

As mentioned three times already, don't put points in one-hand.  Your horse will provide the speed boost and knowing you you're going to put away your shield anyway when on the ground.  You might even be comfortable just having your shield on your back on horseback until you're getting shot at, pretty sure I've seen Joseph of Acre (or something) play like that effectively.

Keep doing what you do.  Who cares if you're not a superhero?  If you kill one, hopefully it deflates their ego even by a little bit.

If the infantry are working together cav isn't going to be a problem since they'll all be carrying pikes.  I recall playing some small battles recently (15 vs 15 maybe) where we had the cav advantage (5-7 cav vs 1 funny guy on a sumpter).  Needless to say the first two rounds we took easily as they were still disorganized but when some arm chair general took command and got those randoms to huddle in a ball of pikes they crushed us.  I know we were hardly organized to deal with their organization but if we were, then it might have been even.  I'd still give the advantage to the infantrymen though, I don't think a cav's role in this game is to attack people who are paying attention to you.

I do that all the time, never seen it work.  Once you are in archery tunnel vision, you're dead.
