Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: Best choice of armor for me?
« on: January 20, 2013, 12:34:23 pm »
Yeah, stick with the mid ranged armors - Heraldic w/ Tabard is a solid choice.  Entirely suited to your style.  Lamellars and mail shirts are all really effective and cheap.  Invest in a decent helmet, and don't go overboard on boots or gloves, just what looks nice to you.

As far as builds go, try this website out.  Remember to keep your stats on increments of 3's.  15/18/21/24/etc, because that allows you to get your crucial skills.

http://infinitum.dyndns.org/crpg/calc.htm

As a 1h shielder, 18/18 is a standard balanced build at level 30, which allows you to max all of your key skills at 6, with 5 points remaining for ironflesh.  From there, whether you want to be stronger or faster, tweak the build.  21/15, or 15/21.  That calculator will let you play around with skills yourself.

Also, I'm talking too much, but if you want to keep reading, I'll offer a little more advice about ranged in your build:

Enjoy man, sorry to talk your ear off, but I hope some of this helps.  I know, I wanted to try everything too.  Have fun and good luck!

Yeah, honestly, I'm trying to hold back my shitposts until this stuff hits NA.  People are saying horses below Destrier(?) no longer knock players down.  People agree that cav is gross I guess, but I'm one of those gay realism > balance guys.  I'd assume any horse with below 120hp, because that would put destrier in line with "heavy cav," having as much as the War horse.

I wouldn't argue as passionately as some others - I'm glad you're putting thought into countering cav.  I thought it was appropriate, but you see some of the best cav players argue against their own playstyle.  BADPLAYER, bless his heart, was boycotting his own class a month ago.

I think 80-100% max speed should still floor a player on the lighter horses.  My bias stems from carrying an anti-cav polearm, but I know how frustrating it is to be knocked down as a 100% aware shielder by a just-past-trotting arabian.  When I think 'nerf cav', heavy horses come to mind, but their charge should be more devastating, and that was only portrayed through bump damage before.  I agree there should be a difference between light and heavy bumps.  Something more punishing than the 1-second "Argh" stun as a rouncey plows into you full speed, but less punishing than being completely floored by an Arabian Warhorse weaving through a melee fight at half speed.  Again, just thoughts.

General Discussion / Re: Crushtrough broken on EU1
« on: January 15, 2013, 04:36:17 pm »
Ouch, I haven't played it, but if this is the case, its too much.

In all my time playing this game, I've never had a problem with crushthrough.  Its devastating and frustrating, absolutely, but it should be.  They should be terrifying - Mauls, Mallets, all of them.  We already get away with murder blocking mauls and mallets with Italian Swords.  They sacrifice speed, length, and shield capability for that ability, and can be countered with ranged, melee support, sheer weapon length, and sharp reflexes.

General Discussion / Re: This double hit business
« on: January 15, 2013, 04:24:38 pm »
Late on this discussion, but about the new suggested turnspeed formula.  Awesome idea, glad to see them implement it.  Could I ask about the 2 directional polearms though?  The English Bill's getting kicked down to mauler levels with the weight penalty, coming out to a 5.4 turnspeed value.  The swiss, lighter and quicker, is still 6.72, which isn't much different than now, but can we see a little love on these guys?  They're big, sure, but they're still somewhat graceful weapons in trained hands.

Give us a side swing with shitty pierce, or be able to donk with the shaft like a warspear; even toning down the thrust stun would help us out.  Most people specced out of the 2D polearms after the initial turnspeed nerf, but I've adjusted and am willing to adjust again simply because I love the weapons - but they were working and functional.  Overheads are the swiss and bill's saving grace, since the thrust stun usually backfires with lethal consequence.

Let me know how you guys feel about it.  I haven't played on EU1, but am excited for the changes.  I have no idea what the double hitting is, but I heard about potential crushthrough changes too.

Suggestions Corner / Re: WSE 2 and the lance angle

Definitely a cool idea.  Would probably ensue rebalancing lance damage, but I can't even count the heavy lance couches I've survived on two hands anymore.

Historical Discussion / Re: The Better General (Wellington or Napoleon)
« on: January 15, 2013, 01:09:08 pm »
Some esoteric circles claimed Napoleon had clairvoyance, where he could visualize how entire battles would go in his mind - much like playing a strategy simulator, except without min/maxing, APM, or zerg rushes.  Honestly I have no idea, I'm not asking anybody to believe that, but its incredible to think about the potential of the focused mind.  You don't learn how to conquer Europe in school these days, that's for sure.
