I read somewhere, probably erroneously, that katanas weren't used as chopping weapons and they avoided making blade to blade contact.

so... if the enemy has a sword... you have to ask nicely for him not to block your attacks?
don't forget to not block his swings, they might damage your pretty knife

How about simply adding the option to auction items? No need to change the whole system. Like on ebay. You can have a buy it now price and a bidding price.

i like it, but i feel like almost no one will use it...

a) its not always a one shot. The slower horses get quite a bit less damage

b) it works the other way too. The speed bonus makes cav VERY vulnerable.

Is anyone else sick of these ridiculously inflated prices on the marketplace?

Well here is a solution, turn it into an auction house. When you put it up for sale people can bid on it. This of course only works for pure gold. Therefore, there you can still trade items, but when you want to sell something for gold it goes on an auction for X amount of time.
In order to stop people using their friends to boost the price, all bids cost a certain amount of money and 5-10% of the ending price goes to the house. This money is then redistributed to poor players who have no monies.

maybe if we give back lancers their old turning rates and make them not made out of glass, cav will actually go back to fighting people instead of just sneak attacking everyone.
