General Discussion / Re: Reverse the gen XP bonus
« on: July 13, 2014, 06:04:13 pm »
There simply is too much power in the hands of the old guard. Levels, looms, gold and then the unquestionable amounts of skill and experience with playing the game. The latter is enough to tip the scales of balance in their favor, but when they also have more stat points and stronger items, it's an uphill battle that will simply kill the game. Slowly but surely, it will kill the game.

To underscore my point, I'll give an easy example: what classes can a first gen character play AND be competitive with? The answer is not horse archer, 1h or lance cavalry, an archer or 1h+shield+throwing weapon specialist. Even being a 2hander is debatable, since you'll lack the skill to compensate the xp+skill+item gap.

What remains is crossbow and 1h+shield. And or a whole lot of frustration. You see a ton of archers nowadays on EU, but they're rarely if ever topping the scoreboards. They're a nuisance that when massed cause some kills, but don't win rounds. I bet they're a reaction on 1) the buffs to ranged/AGI and 2) the inability to compete in other fields.

There's no need to only take from the vets, but some change must take place. Looms themselves should be enough of a compensation for playing the game a ton. Loom points also mean spare gold. Don't add big stat differences to that list - this is what causes the overkill.

Do you want a fair battlefield with a progression that caps out at an attainable ceiling (lvl31) OR do you want this to be the next incarnation EverQuest where only the time you can invest matters? On a theoretical basis I don't mind people going beyond 31, but newbies are already behind in gear and raw skill, and putting another layer of unattainable stats on top of it just means that you have 'the old guard' who play their own game and the rest.

Maxing out at 31, perhaps even removing any stat bonusses that 31 gives, seems to be the way to go.

Heirlooms are a nuisance by themself (playing cavalry without a loomed horse will show you the difference looms makes immediately), but adding another level of veteran bias on top of that makes getting into the game for newbies very very difficult. Skill and looms are more than enough to create a gap between old and new players.

It would be nice if Belgium actually played their wingers wide instead of having them cut inside 20m from the backline. Oh look, Hazard is cutting inside again while Mertens already squeezed in towards their strike. Oh look, three Belgian attackers caught in a forest of defenders. Oh look, another attack ruined >.>

The Belgian coach is running with some atrocious tactics and they should be lucky that they've faced some of the worst teams in the tournament so far. This team can do so much better.

Thanks! I still got some 30k left after updating my gear. I'll stick to my Palfrey for now, because I might go broke in no time if I use a more expensive horse x'D

The punishment unarmored horses can take is ridiculous. As a first gen archer I ignore anything better than a rouncey or arabian warhorse because it takes anywhere from 8 to 12 arrows AND the ones I missed with. Another thing is that they're way too fucking quiet - an armored juggernaut charging about on a horse should make more sound than my girlfriend when I'm working my magic on her.

Lower horse hp a bit and decrease the horse's speed when it bumps into someone (the higher that someone's weight, the bigger the slow) so that when someone mad charges through a mass of enemies, he comes to a crawl. There's a reason infantry massed up versus cavalry .. but right now it just leads to cavalry free bumping through because if you attack, you'll just TK.

Works perfectly fine for me, sound like the problem is on your side.

It sure is considering I've been bump-stabbed over five times already in the last week. There's also loads of ghost-swings from horse-back where the sword comes nowhere close to you, but miraculously chops you in half.

I quit swinging at them on the ground. Half the time my swing goes through them and they come up off the ground with weapon in hand and 1 hit kill me after my weapon passed through them.

Sounds all too fucking familiar to me.

Someone give this woman a vibrator or a goat.

I find that turning sidewards as they shoot is also a great way of making 'em miss. You become a way smaller target after all.
