Trading a Masterwork Horn Bow for Heirloomed shields (if less than x3 will take gold in addition), heirloomed medium armour or gloves.  Will also take a war spear/red tassel spear, or awlpike.

Easy Fix:  Just do a system restore before the point you updated warband.  Then turn off automatic update in steam, and you're good to go.
