Game Balance Discussion / Broad Short Sword change was bad

Reducing its speed by 2 and stab damage by 1 was a poor change in my opinion.

First it was buffed, mainly the cut damage on swings and 0 slot.

To be honest I would prefer its old stats over the new ones, it completely changes the weapon sadly. (I mean pre buff stats, no increased cut damage with the original speed and pierce damage on it.)

In it's current state I will be trading it for the short arming sword most likely.

I don't mean this to be an attack on the balancing team for items, but this was a radical change from the weapons original qualities.

One thing I have found with nudges that should be addressed is:

The ability to nudge with a weapon immediately after switching weapons or sheathing a shield.

I understand that kick and nudge will be on the same timer as well in the next patch so that issue has been resolved. (or will be soon)

Please add a timer till you can nudge after you change weapons or sheath a shield. (Make it between 3 and 5 seconds till you can nudge after doing this)

Make it so that kick is not effected by this timer so that you can still kick in these scenarios. Important note should be that after the kick is initiated the timer for a nudge or kick is then started again.

BONUS:

Make it so that Athletics effects the kick timer, and weapon master effects the nudge timer (also for 2h / polearms when they are implemented) at a rate of .1 seconds per level. For when shield bash is implemented base that timer off shield skill. Since all the skills will have different timers it should use the timer associated with the move that was used, for example if I have 10 shield and 0 athletics, a shield bash will recover in 4 seconds, and a kick will recover in 5, so I can bash, then 4 seconds later kick, and then 5 seconds later shield bash again.

Not sure if this is working as intended, so I am posting it here.

While using a 2h weapon with a shield (Ie morning star or long sword) when you switch the shield to inventory so the weapon is used in 2h mode, during the shield sheathing animation a nudge can be used while the weapon is still in 1 hand.

Anyone have comments on this?

It seems strange to me that you can nudge at the same time you sheath a shield.

Game Balance Discussion / 1h Stab still a viable attack?

Just want to put the question out there to the community about 1h stab animation.

I use a regular espada, 102 speed sword with 6wm and it seems that every other weapon type can still stab faster than I can with my 1h sword.

It seems to me that since 1h stab really is the gimpest attack in that in has the highest chance of glancing, I feel that the extra "length" it gets from the attack really isn't worth the huge speed hit.

Range is overwhelming the game right now... or thats what people say. I personally use a shield and it works sometimes in keeping me alive against range. I notice a few things along the way playing this and here is what I think range should be more like.

Range needs to stop running away constantly: The ability to easily outrun dedicated melee players means that range will always want to run and pew pew again. Given this information, I suggest that after drawing / aiming any range weapon, the bonus from athletics granted to that character is stalled for 5 seconds. WHY you may ask? Aside from BALANCE, it is realistic given the exact breathing required to fire a bow / or xbow / throwing weapon, which usually has to be steady. To make a bit of variance, each point in throwing / archery would lower this cool down by .3 seconds for each point. This would give a mobility edge to bows / thrown compared to xbows.

Range on horseback: A penalty needs to be added for reload times for all range weapons (except throwing) on horseback. Being on a horse and firing a range weapon is difficult (I would know I'm Hungarian... Attila the Hun, horse archer empire) and with the animal moving makes it more difficult to properly reload a weapon. I suggest that weapons reload 50% slower then normal on horseback, however power draw skill will reduce this time by 5% each point. Xbow will get no reduction. Secondly, while aiming a ranged weapon on horseback, the ability to control the horse should be reduced 50%, so WHILE YOU ARE AIMING AND FIRING your ability to maneuver is hindered. Please note that this would be a 50% softening of its turning speed, and acceleration and NOT A 50% SPEED REDUCTION. This is also supported by balance, and reality, in the case that telling a horse what to do with only your legs is difficult to do, and not as an effective way to guide a horse as pulling the reigns.

WPF Curve: I imagine this will be addressed soon, but I just wanted to point out that high WM was supposed to be appealing to hybrids, now its not really necessary since you don't need much WM to get 2 skills above 100.

Game Balance Discussion / Why do picks do so much damage?

Just wondering why they are so damn effective compared to all other weapons as far as raw damage and speed are concerned.

Using a hammer is kind of pointless... because if you use a pick you will land hits more often (speed) and kill in equal or less swings (damage).

For example, the BEST 1h stabbing weapon, the espada, does 30 damage base. Steel pick however does 32 damage.


I like the idea of having so many different types of weapons that you can really find a niche, but the pick imho has a bit too much goodness compared to other weapons in the same class.
