He was talking about liking the changes...

I was clearly wrong to make a blanket statement about what people like. But, and I'm not being facetious, can anybody explain how the turn speed change makes the game more fun (without referring to exploits or realism)? To give my take on it for perspective, I feel that it makes combat less natural because my speed randomly changes when I try to do certain attacks, on top of all the other arguments such as it slows the game down and makes it harder to fight more than one person at a time. I also feel it devalues the stab and more importantly the overhead and promotes playstyles like backpedal and right swing (especially with polearms), which I can't imagine was intentional.

Except it doesn't really feel like it's lessened the power of the best players at all, despite the forum whining. All that has been achieved is making melee a little bit less fun for everyone.

Clearly all the people telling everyone to adapt were unable to adapt themselves to "lolstabbing".

Game crashes immediately upon joining EU2, on both versions of Warband.

Make sure the image scaling is turned off in the Nvidia Control Panel. I don't have an Nvidia card any more but I remember it wasn't entirely obvious when scaling is on or off, but play with the settings because it definitely caused stuttering problems in M&B.

How does 'victim_is_not_doing_attack_animation' mean that someone should be hit during one of his attacks by the way. I can't help but read 'not doing attack'.

It's just worded strangely. Strike2 is the normal hit, strike3 is polestagger; so if the victim is attacking and takes more than 15 damage, they are staggered.

EU1 feels laggy to me as well. Can't tell if the ping spikes are just my internet or the server because they don't last long. Haven't tried other servers.

Of course, but couldn't it be a little smoother?

Autosuggestion much?

Hardly. Since I didn't see anyone else in the thread mentioning the strange chamber animation (until now) I assumed it was the swing itself which was slower.

Anyway, I don't think it's the slower swings which are causing so much butthurt right now, rather the way in which it was implemented. The 2H right swing really seems odd now, and it messes with your rhythm when you're fighting for your life. For comparison, I played with a polearm alt last night and the swing felt the same as always, which is an important point. Changing the way combat feels makes the change more noticeable and harder to deal with.

The reason I only noticed in the last couple of days is because the right swing now feels laggy/bugged. Not only is the swing slower, it feels like the chamber animation is slower as well and this obviously affects feints and normal attacks. You know when you go to hit someone and your weapon gets stuck in the chambered position until you click again (presumably because of lag)? Well it seems like about 1/10 of my right swings now do that, or if they don't it feels like I'm holding my attacks a fraction of a second longer than intended, which usually ends up in me being hit whenever I try to right swing.

Is it possible the chamber time was changed as well as the swing time, or was that intended?

If you have an nvidia graphics card and the latest drivers, go into the nvidia control panel -> adjust desktop size and position -> change the dropdown menu where it says "Perform scaling on:" to Display.

This sounds like the exact problem I was having, where I had anywhere up to 140 fps but the game was still stuttering. Turning off the new scaling feature on the nvidia drivers using the steps above worked for me; if it doesn't work for you try changing some more of the settings on that page, e.g. change the scaling mode to Full Screen or No Scaling, and turn off "Override the scaling mode set by games and programs".

I believe the stun is linked to damage in the same way crushthrough and knockdown are, so an attack held for 1/3-1/2 second will stun long enough to get a free attack (if you have enough agi and good footwork I suppose). I can't prove it, but I'm almost certain there have been times where I could not block the next attack from a polearm through no fault of my own.

I also remember someone saying it is hard coded into Warband, so it won't be removed until we get the WSE.

Does anyone know what are new stats for German when heirloomed? I have 2 heirloom points, and I hope to get the third within a week/fortnight. I just don/t want to waste them since I don't play that much and it will take forever to get them again.

94 speed, 27 pierce, 41 cut.

Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: Xbow Tips?
« on: May 06, 2011, 07:41:36 pm »
The biggest advantage of the xbow is obviously the ability to hold your shot without losing accuracy, so play to that strength.

If someone without a shield is zig-zagging towards you, don't move your reticule just wait till they run into it.

You should prioritise cav since you're the best equipped to take them down; do this by waiting till they're running in a straight-ish line perpendicular to you, lead them by a good amount and fire. For slow moving/nearby/shieldless cav, aim at the rider instead.

On flat ground, go for head shots, especially when shooting into a large mob. On maps where you know where everyone runs to at the start of the round, try to be in a position to shoot into them as they get there, because there's almost no chance they can all get out of the way.

Going 1v1 with an archer on open ground or at close to medium range probably won't go your way. Wait till they're distracted and shooting at someone else. 100% of archers stop to shoot, so wait until they do so and then head shot them. You'll only get one shot before they realise you're there, and hitting an archer who is actively trying to dodge you is not worth the effort.
