Title: Archer PD after requirements
Post by: Rumblood on July 08, 2011, 10:06:49 am
I don't think that a PD 10 is viable at all, so the limit on how much above your bow that PD boosts your damage already has a soft cap on it.

Please lift the hard cap on PD bonus above requirements.

This is a better solution to having the player base use more types of bows than buffing one slot bows stats, or nerfing the strong bow as was put forth in a different thread (stay away!)

This would basically affect the lower tier bows the most. Most upper tier bows, most people have PD 6-8 at most. They would have to go PD 9 to reach the current PD bonus cap, (meaning they can do it already, nothing changes there). Some crazy fool with no desire to actually hit anything with their uber bow might go PD with a Longbow, but honestly, it probably could use it!

What would be nice is a PD 8 Hunting bow to go after archers or xbow's or HA's with.

The class that would receive an indirect buff of sorts might be HA's, but they aren't OP anyhow, and this wouldn't change much except they would run out of arrows faster

PD damage and projectile speed bonus is limited to a maximum of ( bow_difficulty + 4 ). It makes sense though, because you can't put an unlimited amount of energy into a certain bow - it will simply break. So we'll not change that.

The only theoretical advantage of having high powerdraw while using a weak bow is that one should be able to hold the aim accurately for longer (and maybe draw the bow quicker). The thing with holding the aim for longer is already ingame and it is not capped at ( bow_difficulty + 4 ).

Seriously Paul? You are going to use a "Its not realistic" excuse? How about gameplay? You do know that the entire concept of a Power Draw bonus on a lighter bow is unrealistic don't you?

Back in the day, made a pd 14 archer with heirloomed longbow to mock the throwing lancers, but it isn't funny anymore.

Oh god developers talking about realism in a balance thread. No wonder ranged is the way it is now.

It's good that we can put unlimited amount of energy in our melee swings. Melee weapon cannot break. Never. Even lances cannot break.

Lifting the PD cap would just lead to super inaccurate archers running around hitting like trucks, which would lead to people getting one-shotted on occasion, which would lead to whining on the forums, which would lead to an archer nerf.

Say no to lifting the PD cap.
