I see there are a lot of "I have X weapon, and I want W, Y, or Z". Some put the items down in the marketplace, while some make a post in the forums.
I suggest that if you make a post in the forums, make the trade possible in the marketplace as well. Why? Well, for starters you might find someone who does not check the forums much. And maybe something like this happens (I've done it once with a +1 weapon).
I want a German Greatsword, and I have a Highland Claymore. There is no trade like this in the marketplace. But, someone gives a Danish Greatsword for a Highland, and there is another one who gives a German for this Danish!. Thus, you can swap your weapon, and all 3 players have obtained their items.
PD: Obviously you can use the forums to advertise your product, or try to bargain prices with someone. But if you know you want a X for Y or Z... trade, use the marketplace as well!

People have their own reasons for this. While a part of what you are saying makes sense, don't tell people what to do.

It is a suggestion as I don't know what reason could they have to do this, aside from bargaining a price. But I've seen some threads where no money was mentioned.

Some people put offers in marketplace at overrated prices.
Others prefer discussing the price. Thus they take their time, and post on the forum, or go on TS/irc.
Or if they don't want to discuss it, but they know the general price, they can still put in on the marketplace for the good value.
Keep both, they're unrelated, cause done by two different sorts of traders.

Main reason for me would be: people outbidding each other, offering gold on top so you get a better trade.

For me there were 2 reasons so far:
1. gold... I can only demand gold... i cannot offer and so I cannot offer sometimes the correct trades.
2. If I want a specific weapon/armor X I am willing to give heirloom A or B for it. But if I set up Item A and B at the same time for X I will have a problem, if both are successfull. So you can offer A and B in text, but not in trades at the same time.

This one should be the reason that was bugging me. I understand it now (but you can always put one of the heirlooms)

This is the biggest problem I have with the market (or at least I think it is; the post wasn't phrased that well). Why can we not post offers of gold in addition to weapons, or just simply gold? Only being able to offer weapons is a huge handicap. It's not even that hard to recode. It's already written on the request side
