Title: One slot bow rebalance
Post by: Sammael on July 06, 2011, 08:21:39 pm
It seems as though the Strong bow is currently used more than any other bow in game. Long bows and to a lesser extent, War bows are still seen but in terms of single slot bows, the Strong bow is almost always chosen.

It would be nice to rebalance some of the one slot bows, so that there are a greater variety of viable options. Whether this is done by lowering the damage of the strong bow, or increasing the damage/speed of the lesser expensive bows, I am unsure.

What do you guys think? Lets see some archer variety!

War Bow is a semi-automatic Sniper Rifle.
Long Bow is the bolt-action Anti-Material Rifle.
Strong Bow is the Assault Rifle.
Khergit Bow is the Squad Light Automatic Weapon, or perhaps better yet a PDW with a large magazine (like the FN P90) if you MW it (insane output on arrows).
Nomad Bow is the cheap knock-off, perhaps a real PDW. Pretty useless in open field battles, and good as a hold-out but going to make you wish you had a better bow in close support. Good for run and guns, maybe... You will wish you had brought a shotgun (xbow) instead for emergencies.
Bow is like a MAC-10 if you masterwork it, and pretty damn useless just like the real thing (why not an MP-5K?).
Short Bow is the automatic pistol that you bought against your better drunken whims... but good as a nice start to figure out how to shoot. Easy to waste ammo on though, a nice starting bow.

I think we really mainly need an alternative PD 5 bow and an alternative PD 4 bow for extra choice, like how there are currently two PD 6 bows. But yes, a small tweak to the Strong Bow would be good to make it slightly worse, either a 1 point hit in damage for both the Strong Bow and Long Bow or slightly less accuracy for the strongbow, or make the War Bow do one more point. I dunno...

Like a 4/5 PD bow with Pierce damage?
Slower and less powerful against lightly armored opponents than their cut dmg counterpart, but useful against armor. (something like a composite bow, maybe?)
That would make it something like a semi-automatic rifle with armor piercing rounds.

Also, I would recommend increasing the damage of the War Bow over lowering the damage done by a Strong Bow. (however, that might be my 5 PD build talking)

Exactly, make more 4 and 5 PD bows but make them very distinct in ways like that.
Also, don't be afraid to make one of the new 4/5 PD bows have a "not usable on horseback" to add more spice if needed. They should all be 1 slot though...

EDIT: Neither of the new bows should be "better" just a viable alternative, even if slightly worse then the equivalent PD counterparts.

I don't think Strong bows currently do too much damage in general. They do too much damage in comparison with khergit and lower bows in my opinion, however. Warbows could potentially use a buff as well, but I'll leave that for another thread :P

I like the idea of a low-moderate PD pierce damage bow though. What if some of the current, lesser used bows were rebalanced to fulfill such roles?

I agree, 1-slot bows shouldn't be buffed much since the recent patch, the whine would be unbearable...
Either way, we could also have another 4/5 PD bow that fires as quickly as the Bow (as in the regular 2 PD bow), but dealing more damage. (becoming the like the previously mentioned MP-5K, perhaps even something with a slightly heavier caliber)

Also, slightly differences in accuracy could be applied to give people a chance to pick either an accurate semi-auto rifle or a submachinegun/assault rifle with a higher rate of fire, but lowered accuracy.

Strong Bow
weight: 1.3
accuracy: 97
difficulty: 5
speed rating: 63
missile speed: 51
thrust damage: 25 cut
slots: 1

Fasader Bow
weight: 1.4
accuracy: 96
difficulty: 5
speed rating: 61
missile speed: 52
thrust damage: 20 pierce
slots: 1

Better sniping, less impact for run and gun, less impact on light to normal targets.

Khergit Bow
weight: 1.3
accuracy: 96
difficulty: 4
speed rating: 65
missile speed: 49
thrust damage: 22 cut
slots: 1

Fasaperp Bow
weight: 1.2
accuracy: 96
difficulty: 4
speed rating: 67
missile speed: 48
thrust damage: 17 pierce
slots: 1

Fast output, low potential damage against a lot of targets yet can still pinprick heavy tin cans, terrible sniper weapon. Good for run and gun at close range.

Hmm?

EDIT: Took out redundant missile speeds.

Stats look great, not too powerful, but still capable of taking down someone in heavy armor after a few hits.

Interesting... while we're changing things though, mind bumping that Khergit bow damage up to 23c? :D

Fasaperp bow looks like fun!
