Title: Voice packs - additions and reminder

So, considering that the voice pack has been out for some time, I was wondering
a) what people think of it
b) if anyone wants to do another voicepack (we'd desperately need a female voice actor)
c) if there are commands that you think should be added.

we will soon add another voicepack, so you can select your voice via website. Once we use WSE you will also be able to select the pitch of your voice.

Personally I think it doesn't matter, if there are by any chance some tactics on the public battle (and even siege) servers, it is ordered and agreed via normal team chat,

I think we can all agree we need more voice commands about stairs.

It needs to be less detailed. I talked about this with someone, can't remember who.

Like:
Q-Q-Q Cavalry
Q-Q-W Infantry
Q-Q-E Archers

Q-W-Q Incoming
Q-W-W Defend
Q-W-E Attack

Q-E-Q Left
Q-E-W Center
Q-W-E Right

Ofc more voices. But not individual full voices for each detailed command "Incoming infantry from right" would become QWQ, QQW, QWE.

Less immersive, sure, but infinitely more useful.

Nice, so I'll be able to make a very girly male voice?

I agree. Also whistle needs to be something simpler, since it's useful for calling horses and warning.

I realy dont use the voice so often as i should, simply becouse its to compicated after my taste.

A two hit voice would be better. And the most important one would be.

1: Enemy behind you
2: Cav behind you

As a commander:

Make shield wall
All go left side
All go middle
All go right side

I think there are way to many voice commands now. They should be simplified, and the number of key combinations reduced.

Also the position of commands is not practical, usually people play with WSAD and mouse. Example: If I want to say [l] [C] [Q] incoming cavalry from the left flank I need to move my hand from WSAD keys to the other side of the keyboard leaving me vulnerable and unable to move/defend myself for these few seconds. That is the primary reason I don't use half of them.

From my experience the most used commands right now (At least on battle servers, I don't play siege often) are:

Code: [Select]
[A] [X] Charge!
[F] [R] Archers!
[F] [I] Infantry!
[F] [H] Hold!
[F] [F] Keep formation!
[F] [X] Fall back!
[F] [A] Release Arrows!
[F] [W] Shieldwall!
[F] [D] Stand closer!
[F] [M] Follow me!

The rest is almost never used, and even if it is nobody pays attention.

I also believe the commands should only be visible for the battalion you are in. There could be a number of global commands, the rest will be visible only to the people in their Battalion.

The global commands could be:

Code: [Select]
[Q] (Global)
[Q] [D] [1/2/3/4]Infantry Join Battalion 1/2/3/4 !
[Q] [D] [A] Infantry, Attack !
[Q] [D] [S] Infantry, Hold !
[Q] [D] [X] Infantry, Fall back !

[Q] [C] [1/2/3/4]Cavalry Join Battalion 1/2/3/4 !
[Q] [C] [A] Cavalry, Attack !
[Q] [C] [S] Cavalry, Hold !
[Q] [C] [X] Cavalry, Fall back !

[Q] [A] [1/2/3/4] Archers Join Battalion 1/2/3/4 !
[Q] [A] [A] Archers, Attack !
[Q] [A] [S] Archers, Hold !
[Q] [A] [X] Archers, Fall back !

Battalion commands (Only visible to players in their battalions):

Code: [Select]
[F] (Formation)
[F] [W] Shield Wall !
[F] [A] Form Left !
[F] [D] Form Right !
[F] [S] Stand Closer !
[F] [X] Turn Around !

[A] (Attack)
[A] [A] Attack Left !
[A] [D] Attack Right !
[A] [W] Charge !
[A] [S] Hold !
[A] [X] Fall back !

[D] (Defend)
[D] [A] Defend Left !
[D] [D] Defend Right !
[D] [W] Defend Front !
[D] [S] Keep Formation !
[D] [X] Defend Back !

It would also be nice if players could be automatically put into their corresponding battalions based on the class they play. I was thinking about maybe a simple checkbox on the character page were we could choose our class (Infantry/Cavalry/Archer/Other).

If players select Infantry when they join the game they will be automatically put in Battalion No. 1, Archers in Battalion No. 2, Cavalry in Battalion No.3 and so on. Clans and other players can still choose different battalion if they want to play together (there are 9 if I'm right).

Then it's just the question of taking leadership of each corresponding group. Maybe if someone takes the flag of their battalion a small notification could pop up (In different chat colour): SkyrayFox is now commanding Battalion No.1 !

I like SkyrayFox's post. Except I would also keep "incoming xxx from yyy" commands global. Those are actually among the most useful commands in battle.

Great idea.

I hardly ever use the commands, because people don't listen or react to them, half the playerbase is spamming them for no apparent reason and it takes me too long to find the one I'm looking for. While I'm looking for it, I can't defend myself and I will most likely be killed before I've used the command.

1: Enemy behind you
2: Cav behind you

This. I always whistle to warn people about something, because I can't type the apropriate sequence to say "incoming infantry from behind" in time. But people don't understand my whistling very often, so something like a simple "Watch out!" would be cool. Or some short "Pony/Ninja from behind", as suggested by Ginger.

Don't change any of them! Not because they're particularly any good, because they're freaking LEGENDARY. Shield Wall!! Freaking hilarious. Especially how they're all the same voice except in a higher/lower pitch. Every good mod has quirky legendary voice commands: Day of Defeat, Battlegrounds, Counter-Strike, etc.

This is one of the reason I enjoy battles in cRPG. Actually voice commands are intended for tactics but are rarely used for it (people tend to ignore them) however they always gave me the feeling of a real battle (arrous incomeeng  :D ) and not the speechless native or any other mod.

I really like the voice commands but often feel limted by how they are a little clunky use when you are fighting and want to press V,I,I,S for example (incoming Infantry from behind) (remapped it from Q which I use for look around to V)

Really looking forward to female voices and WSE voice pitch changing if it ever happens.

i don't use them much myself, it would be wise to write some of them down, it's not too bad when you're with a group of people and holding a position, but it seems a little risky sometimes, some quick commands would be nice, say there's a single person and a cav is coming from behind, as suggested, "behind you" or something would help, i would also like to see some taunts or something, some battle screams and such would add to the fun...

been able to choose our own voice will be a nice addition aswell...

a) imo the menu needs to be reworked.  It is too complicated.  I have to press Q, Q, F just to whistle.  Cut down the command list IMO to just "defend here," "attack," "follow me," "hold," etc.  Make about 8 commands (9th slot of the whistle).

b) if I had a better quality mic I could do a Southern American pack :D "Hey ya'll, infantry is comin' our way!"

c) like I said I think the command list is good, there are just too many right now.  I don't really use them for that reason, and it annoys me that I can't whistle easily anymore.

Simple and common voice commands should be two-step, complicated should be three. Build a catapult and all that rubbish can be three, but whistling needs to be very very quick as it can be life or death to get it off due to warning teammates or calling for a horse.

Also, please make it a mutable offense if someone spams voice commands after the initial 20 seconds of a round has passed. It can be unbearable if several people keep spamming the same thing over and over again, sometimes to the point where you can not even tell who has killed who because it scrolls by too fast.

The voice commands are good.  They keys are intuitive, for the most part.  Don't know what ppl are complaining about.

Q - menu
D - Defend
G - Gate, S - Stairs, ect

It makes perfect sense.  Yes, whistling could be made easier.

A) Love the pack except for a few bugs like QAE, bound to two different voice commands but only uses one.
B) More voice packs would be kinda cool.
C) QFD - "Stand Closer Together", should be replaced with "Stay together" or at least made separate. Stand implies defending in one spot, stay together is more of a "move in a pack". I feel like I have to spam QFD 5 times at the beginning of every round for people to understand my meaning.

As it has been said, there are far too many voice commands currently. Most of them are hardly ever used, at least in the right place, and the useful ones are drowned in the mass of unuseful commands.

I don't know if anyone has tried hl2 mod Age of Chivalry? That mod has some textbook class voice acting, I remember how I loved spamming those hilarious taunts over and over again, giggling at them. I've even ported some of the voice commands used there replacing the ones in c-rpg. So much more fun.

And bring taunts! Battle is no battle if you can't mock the opposing teams' skirts

Yeah, simpli simplyfiy symplif making things more simple could never hurt. I barely use anything else than QML, QMV and QQF. The command system has great potential, if tailored well, but as i barely do command others, i cannot offer any suggestions what should be there or not.

Seems like there is nice community here, that is not shy, so maybe, just maybe, you could try to arrange making several different accents :D I mean, i personally would love commands with russian accent, those are just classy, like: Defend the wall, comrades!

edit: reading back, why on earth would i want to defend walls?

i like them,

sometimes no one reads chat and it can be irrelevant. (e.g if your team is split in 2 and you type enemy is behind us, which group are you talking about)

i like how the sound is louder as you are closer to the person that say it,

my favorite commands are the incomming inf/cav from behind/left/right people do turn when you use them.

you just need a cool down to prevent spamming. like if you use 3 commands within 3-5 seconds you cant use it again for another 30 sec.

I like them and I use them quite a bit. Just takes time to learn them and memorize the most important ones so you can say things quickly on the battle field.

1. Can we add some Direction commands?

For Example - Infantry - enemy cavalry incoming - 7 o'clock

2. Also, can we add another color for simple small distance command, for teammates that's really close to you?

For example - check your back
or - help me
or - I need your clothes your boots and your motorcycle

It would be great if we can make this command simple. As simple as Whistle in previous versions

3. Can we add some time commands?

For example - archers - supressing fire - 90 seconds
or - Infantry - hide in hay - 20 seconds

4. Last idea for today - can we make different voices pack for low and high strength characters? I wanna hear Burrick's roar and peasant's chirp.

Nah, terrible idea. Good players aren't always good commanders, and conversely spending time commanding will almost inevitably hamper your score. Classes also greatly influence scoreboard placement, as does level. There's zero link between the leaderboard and leadership skills.

except that the scorevoard leaders are often quite experianced players and therefor know enough about the game to command decently

except that the scorevoard leaders are often quite experianced players and therefor know enough about the game to command decently

Not a surprising comment from such a successful cavganker, but I'm not sure I'd want to take orders from you.

good thing is im way to humble to start yellin commands unless i see ppl beeing total retards.  and if so i wouldnt bee using the commands anyway,  cause clearly my iq is insufficiant to fully gasp the system

The whistle thing could get an easier way of doing it, it's the simplest voice command I could imagine.

I can never be arsed to do the voice commands when it's usually faster just writing "inc cav left", "inc bd", "help bd" and so on.. And people tend to listen more to written commands *shrugs*. Maybe I'm just lazy.

the fix is simple. Remove all voice commands and instead introduce epic lotr sounding warhorns :D

Maybe we can add a commander weapon or something, like a telescope, which activates the voice commands.

Youd aim your crosshair at a piece of ground, an enemy or  an object, than press left click to spot an enemy(cavalry behind etc) and middle mouse to select attack (attack their archers! etc).

Would make it a lot easier and less spammable.

I think this mod probably puts enough of a strain on their relationship without extra demands like that.

Also, in case people forgot about the added incentive for recording these:

<okiN> Are you still offering a reward for this stuff, btw?
<okiN> Wasn't it a loom point for an accepted set originally?
<chadz> yes
<chadz> every accepted set = 1 loom point

I'd record a whole set. Ask anyone in Chaos, I have a wonderful yelling voice.

Go for it, then! Anyone who's confident enough in their vocal ability should record one; I think we can all agree the mod could use some variety.

That goes double for the ladies! If you're worried about stalkers, send the packs to chadz anonymously or something. :P

I said on IRC I wouldnt mind doing a voice pack some time ago, some other stuff got in the way, but when I am back I will work on it.

But wouldn't that unleash the biggest stalker ?

I recon most of these voice commands, made by the legendary Bill Roper & co, would do:

(click to show/hide)

Edit: they're much better then the current ones. Also: I'd recommend Lansamur for the peasant voices re-recording, if needed.  We do have peasants in this game.

Ahh, AoC. Best fps Melee game ever. Too bad their real game (Chivalry: Battle for Agatha) is a long way in the making. That's why I came to MP warband in the first place. If you need people to record the voices I can do some, even invent some creative taunts/insults too if you want too. Also Sephis has a REALLY good commanding voice, I bet I could get him to do some too if you wanted to. Between the two of us and Hauptman I guess we have the deep voices cowered. Any high pitched males up for some recording?

Hehe, you should here Sephis do the orc voices from WC3. I'm sure he's the original voice actor!
