Title: Newbie looking for guidance :D
Post by: daZza on July 05, 2011, 09:59:19 am
Hey folks,

just got the Steamdeal for 9,99 and bought all three games. I was looking for a really nice mod and found yours :)
Just registered and played my first round. I'd like to be an archer once, so could anyone help me a bit which skills I should level and how much?

Also I registered my account for Strategus. Whats that and how I use it? Any InGame bonuses then?

Would be nice if anyone could help me out here :D

best regards
daZza

Strategus is currently down. As for archering, the important skills are power draw (requires STR to increase) and archery weapon proficiency (requires AGI to raise Weapon Master to gain more WPF). You can use the character calculator (http://infinitum.dyndns.org/crpg/calc.htm) to help yourself with the build so you don't fuck up - aim for lvl 30 build, as that is the level you'll be spending most of your time on.

You can also use this guide (http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,6690.0.html) to help yourself if you want to be an archer.

This is a archer/melee build though. I just want to be a pure archer with some ownage damage and range. So I'd probably go for a longbow I suppose. Do I just skill Power Draw, Archery and Atheletics then?

Yes,
put all wpf in archery, go for 6 PD+, put the leftover skills in athletics and IF.

Something like this:

Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)

    * Strength: 24
    * Agility: 18
    * Hit points: 59

    * Skills to attributes: 14

    * Ironflesh: 0
    * Power Strike: 0
    * Shield: 0
    * Athletics: 3
    * Riding: 0
    * Horse Archery: 0
    * Power Draw: 8
    * Power Throw: 0
    * Weapon Master: 6

    * One Handed: 1
    * Two Handed: 1
    * Polearm: 1
    * Archery: 156
    * Crossbow: 1
    * Throwing: 1

The build might be a bit low on athletics, but you will atleast hit hard. If you want more athletics and some IF for 7 PD, go for 21/18.

What does WeaponMaster does? Also useful for bow?

Weaponmaster increases the amount of weapon profiency points you get. Extremely useful, as you'll be more accurate.

Be sure to read all guides on the forum, they should really help.

For archery the difficulty of the bow = Power Draw required to use it. If you want to use longbow you need 6 points in Power Draw and 18 points in strength at minimum.

Weapon Master increases accuracy for bows and rate of fire. Essential skill especially for archers.

If you want to be pure archer you may want to try this build:

Quote
    Strength: 18
    Agility: 21
    Hit points: 53

    Skills to attributes: 8

    Power Strike: 3
    Athletics: 7
    Power Draw: 6
    Weapon Master: 7

    Archery: 164

Or feel free to experiment, this is what cRPG is all about after all.

Have fun and enjoy the game !

Bought a bow now and tried arching... Somehow I dont like it though :( I feel like im constantly hitting people, but they just dont take any damage from it.
I guess I'll respec.

What would be a good setup for a melee, which has quite some good damage and very good armour with a shield?

Be warned that at low levels, archery is extremely frustrating, and until 20+ you will be inefectual.

Massive edit:

I think this is a good thing that you want to try out melee, as it s the heart and soul of the game.

Avoid cav as it can bankrupt new players.

As for melee, Manual blocking will be extremely difficult at first, so most new player go into shielder just to get used to the "rhythm" of melee. After you die, try and follow an experienced player in spectator mode.

For a shielder I highly recommend 21 STR 15 AGIL (all wpf into one handed, 7PS 5IF 5WM 5ATHL 5SHIELD).
This will give you decent survivability. If you want to go without a shield, I recommend using a poleaxe (polearm type weapon), put all wpf into polearms, and make a 24/15 build, 8PS, 5ATHL, 5WM 5IF.

Trying the "instant 30 skip the fun" thingy might be good to test out builds until you know what you are doing, THEN level a character the old fashioned way. It takes an average of 72 or so hours to reach level 31... and half of that is from level 30 to 31...

Today apparently all of my paragraphs are itsy bitsy...

Have fun!

Wait until you get better bows and more Power Draw.

As others have said, initially, every build is quite weak.

Cheers and hope to see you out there!

Edit* - Basically, what Tears said. :P
