Title: Looking for a good thrower build
Post by: Lanciari on July 03, 2011, 08:41:21 am
Hi im new to crpg & am looking forward to playing using javelins & such. However im also interested in being able to fight w shield in hand. So im guessing a hybrid thrower w 1H would suit me. Basically I wanna try & play as a velite or peltast. Wearing light armor a nice shield & prob 1 of those 0 slot weapons. Im thinking that my throwing wpf should be 120-140 the rest in melee. However I am puzzled as to whether I should go str or agi build. Take in mind my sword would be a last resort weapon as it was for peltast in real life. Any recommendations are welcome & glad to be playing.

This is what i'm aiming for:

    Strength: 18
    Agility: 18
    Hit points: 53

    Skills to attributes: 2

    Ironflesh: 0
    Power Strike: 6
    Shield: 6
    Athletics: 6
    Riding: 0
    Horse Archery: 0
    Power Draw: 0
    Power Throw: 5
    Weapon Master: 6

    One Handed: 135
    Two Handed: 1
    Polearm: 1
    Archery: 1
    Crossbow: 1
    Throwing: 100

I'm personally using medium armour since i'm more melee focused but you can easily drop a shield point and add it to throwing and swap the wpf if you wished. In light armour you could probably drop some ath too.

Wow thinking of respeking... throwing is awful in this game. Currently str15 agi11. My PS 5 PW 5. Anything I hit requires 3 or more hits to kill. Even damn archers in cloth is this a joke. Lets not even start on accuracy everything falls after 10 ft. Any target filling up the cross hair at point blank is insta missed as the axe or dart flies in which ever given way... My wpf is currently 107 with 50 on 1H. For some damn reason I do better w the 1H. What a cruel joke for javelin troops.

And developers are aware of that and are going to boost throwing.

For the time being though, you really should consider respec.

Throwing has been so heavily nerfed that there are about 50 albino koalas for every one thrower. All in all, throwers are like the neanderthals of cRPG,they were once pretty awesome but now they are going extinct because of nerfs. (Neanderthals were nerfed with stupidity, so they all retired and/or died out)

Using an underpowered class has a strong apeal for me.
I am going to do the build you suggested marathon. but i think ill try polearm instead of 1h.
my quarterstaff will be masterworked this gen and it is only 1 wep slot so it may work out ok.

I think i am going to be frustrated by my poor accuracy with throwing.
I think i will wish i had never gone throwing by about level 30
xbow is so good at 1wpf so no good reason to waste points in throwing

I will be happy if:
i can get used to aiming throwing weapons without throwing off my horsearchery aim.
i can maintain a 2:1 kdr  one i am level 30.

This is going to kill you, the flight time for thrown projectiles is so slow that you have to aim ahead of another moving horse by almost the entire width of your screen.
