Title: 1.223 problem
Post by: SpyDaniel on June 30, 2011, 09:23:06 pm
I am running 0.223 which I downloaded just now, I try joining one of the servers and it tells me that the server is running a newer version (1.223) than the one I am running (1.223).

WTF?

I am running the same version, but it does not let me play, why? And why is the download marked as 0.223 and then in game it says 1.223?

0.223 is cRPG, 1.223 is M&B:W

Not really a conveneint solution to this in the other forum either tbh.

I suggest you just wait for the solution to be resolved by the devs.

Redownload the game from TaleWorlds here (http://download.taleworlds.com/mb_warband_setup_1134.exe), which is the old patch and copy your cRPG folder into the modules directory and play. Your old serial should be stored in your registry, even if it's Steam, unless you have one of the special keys, in which case you're fucked, because I'm pretty sure you change your CD-Key, you risk losing things, as of the cRPG tie in.

SUCCESS

Found a full proof way (been mentioned) and cmp said not to directly install over steam files but so far it's the only method that works 100% for me.

1. Download old patch from cmps link:
http://download.taleworlds.com/mb_warband_setup_1134.exe
or
http://download2.taleworlds.com/mb_warband_setup_1134.exe

2. Disable warband from automatically updating on steam.

3. Install the patch to your program files (default option).

3. Once it's done, rename to mountblade warband (the steam name) and copy into your steamapps/common directory.

4. Overwrite and merge ect.

5. Start crpg and there you go. You can play. No loss to mods, options, banners ect ect.

I didn't download anything you guys mentioned, instead:

I changed this line
compatible_with_warband = 1223
to this
compatible_module_version = 1223

in the second line of module.ini in the cRPG folder.
It works!
(No hacking with steam, I only did this change after I couldn't start the game)

I can confirm, that does the job brilliantly!

Yep, friend tried it and said it worked. Doesn't mean this won't cause odd side effects since some game files are different.

Read the update log in steam. I hope it won't cause any side effects. And soon devs will release a correct crpg patch, maybe.
This way at least you can play both Native and cRPG. Please report if you find any problem about this solution.

Some slight alterations here, the link that goes here (http://download.taleworlds.com/mb_warband_setup_1134.exe) is not a patch, it is a redownload of the entire game that is patched to the pre-latest version.

When you install this "patch" (For ease of terms), you can install it in any folder, in any directory, anywhere, and don't have to touch Steam at all. This also does not affect your registry settings in terms of start up locations as M&B doesn't use those registries. The only registries M&B really sets is serial, and if Steam already set that, then the minute you click the client executable, the game begins.

You do not have to overwrite your Steam installation, and turn off auto-update patching, etc. This is a full fucking install with the old patch, serial should be auto-detected unless you have one of those bad serials that doesn't fit.

If you don't want to fuck with your Steam installation of Warband, then install it somewhere else, simple.

Just saw this (http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,9426.0.html) making all of these solutions irrelevant, but still, for future reference I guess.
