Title: Cavalry
Post by: Torp on June 29, 2011, 08:23:56 pm
First of all; balanced in this case means balanced in comparison to the other cRPG classes, not internal cav balance.

We see all these discussion with people posting over and over again and making up their own statistics on who wants what and so on.

Now i'm simply creating a poll to get a mor clear answer.
I would prefer if tehre was no big discussions n this trhead, since tehre are plenty of other trheads for that - people are allowed to state their opinion or come with their suggestion, and if someone else wants to discuss it, send a pm or start a new topic.

I would also appreciate it if people try to be objective isntead of thinking "I'm cav, i want it buffed" or "I'm a stafe archer, cav has killed me a lot.. lets nerf it"
Try to look at it in a bigger perspective. What would be best for overall cRPG balance and, in not-so-near future, strategus balance?

Thx.

I honestly think cav has to wait to be reassessed till throwing gets a buff. Once throwing is back we can see what effect it has against cav (used to help inf a lot ).

This is mostly to get numbers instead of all the cav nerf threads started by the same players. I, too, think we should wait, but meanwhile, this can give us a better overview.

This is going to be a biasd poll... because everyone who rides cav is going to say its fine or not good enough, and everyone who is infantry is going to say there over powered.

Horses of course should have an advantage against a infantry unit, but thats why the pike was invented.... Get a pike and you won't think horses are over powered anymore.

This could be the fix we are looking for.

Make hose noise louder.

Make horses a bit more durable.

Then it's balanced imo.  They are really fragile, yet sneaky in a way.

This is about as unbiased as we're gonna get and you can read into it what you like. But to me the same amount of people want to buff and nerf cav, but this applies to most weapons e.g. bow which also has equal amounts of buff / nerf. This to me indicates a balance if buff = nerf. Read into what you want. I'm sure each players will have his own take on it and no doubt we will hear it on here :P

Personally I am for buffing horse noise, something needs to make you sorry footmen wake up :P

I still say the horse sounds floris mod implements. Then the footmen would simply crap their pants and run away instead

I don't know how people bitch about the noise horses make.  I can hear them across a map with my volume on low.  If anything, the noise for people on foot should be higher.  I have to be standing still, away from the action with my volume cranked up to 11 to even have a chance of hearing someone in plate mail softly pad up behind me before he caves my skull in with a morningstar.

both need ot be way fucking louder, end of story.
with my headset before one of the speakers broke i said the same thing about horses. Using a speaker&mic right now horses have no sound at all, and people don't make noise regardless.

it is really bad I don't know why footsteps and shit are so quiet. You can't even change them yourself?!? what a weak sound set up in options :(

Accerelation and maneuverability should go down and health should go up.

PS. I was a cav till my last gen.

Overall I think cav is balanced, but like I suggested in one of the other cav threads, cavalry should go from backstabbing ninjas to support role.

I agree, cavalry should no longer be able to kill players that aren't paying attention to them. They should gain the full time status of "support role", which to archers is aka pin cushion apparently.
/signed

But really, please do something about high maneuver horses. Their capabilities are what the vast majority of infantry complaints refer to. Except for the "jet pony" complaint, but honestly a courser at top speed is exponentially easier to kill than a steppe horse at reduced speed. Its maneuver that's the problem. And horse sounds, although I've never had problems with them myself. But then again I play with a cheap $15 headset, so I'm probably ahead of the curve there

Accerelation and maneuverability should go down and health should go up.

PS. I was a cav till my last gen.

Acceleration is maneuverability. Did you happen to play only one horse and did that horse happen to be arabian?

Very much balanced right now. As I bitched about in my "HORSE BURF" thread though, I'd prefer a different type of balance.

It's not just quietness that's the problem, it's also that the game doesn't allow for realistic location of the source. In real life, if a horseman was approaching you from behind at full gallop, you'd be able to tell. In the game, however, it's mostly indistinguishable from some teammate riding around in circles ten metres away. Hence ninja cav.

As one of those Ninjas always back stabbed by Cav, I fully endorse this.

Anyway, that is sort of a support role: pick off the stragglers, scout, pick off archers. Things are fine the way they are (minus the katana). No more nerfs/buffs, let the pot settle!

Is it just me or is there really way less cav than 2 months before?

- make it hard to upkeep light horse
- nerf some speed and maneuver on horses
- put up some bullshit restriction on lance ( the spine! oh the spine )
- decrease its damage ( new armor soak, faster speed or something )
- add throwers to the mix
- gimp HA a bit (because pure 2h got no offensive response to them)

sit back and enjoy the effect

Still way too many roaming around. It's hard to master lance but every fool can be succesful with it, even I was pretty solid with it. 1H cav is and always will be backstabbing bastard but it seems that a lot of people have long weapons so it's actually harder to play as 1H cav than "nerfed" lancer.
