Can anyone clarify what skills are needed to use the Bastard Sword?
I.e, if using it 1hd does that require 1hd wpf or do both rely on 2hd wpf
Thanks in advance :)

it uses 2h Proficiency when used without a shield.
It uses 1h proficiency when used with a shield.
[nobody uses it with a shield]

There are some weirdos, who use it with shield, but mostly they get killed fast becaus bastard sword with shield is really slow

Thanks for the clarification guys.
I am on my first character and have been using the B-sword both ways (with and without shield). I actually thought i was being clever as it seemed to give best of both worlds. Having a shield was useful when facing archers etc, whilst using it 2 handed gave me some nice hits (and yes seems alot faster).
Im level 30 now, so obviously looking to the future build (made loads of mistakes with this one).
So you would seriously recommend against using the above?

Consider the bastard sword a 2h sword only. When used with a shield, it gets a serious reduction in damage and speed.
HOWEVER, it is still a good idea to take a shield for when you are advancing on archers, or up a seige ramp. When you get close to the archer, within melee range, take the shield off and fight with sword only.
Also, the heavy bastard sword is better than the normal one imo.

Cool, thats the way ive been doing it. I close to range and then swing the sheild on my back and unleash justice :D

Using a 2h/1h has a sword and buckler is a terribad idea, you get a extreme hidden penalty (don't do it).
,But I myself use it to intimidate the ennemy (so he don't spam you until you try to sheath your shield and die)

Use Heavy Batsard.
