Title: Long Hafted mounted
Post by: Prosed on June 27, 2011, 10:50:07 pm
Why is no one using a long hafted blade on horseback? It looks nais!  :)

Requires more skill than poking people.

Its slow, is weak against armour, and has lousy reach compared to the heavy lance. Still it`s reasonable polearm on foot, and can be used against light armour on horseback.

Add that the custom animation is totally retarded, and that is it simply suicidal to go 1h cav without a shield. Well it is suicidal to go 1h cav instead of lance cav anyway.

Completely bolstered my will to become a 1H cavalry against all odds out there.

I stayed 1h cav for months, but stopped a few weeks ago because it began to get really moronic. Even 0 wpf in pole + a heavy lance makes killing easier than 160 wpf in 1h and a +3 arab cav sword. Even to be cool, it's just gimping yourself to do that. Furthermore, polearms are also superior on foot in many situations.

Long hafted on horseback is not the same as 1h/2h on horseback. I'd say 1h on horseback is waaay easier to hit with and is generally more effective, especially with shield.

Also, you want to see efficient and deadly bumpslashers (1h+shield cav), go to ru_crpg, they are making it a terrible pain to play there with anything but a piker >_>

I find bump slash 1h cav to be quite good. My highest k/d gen was 1h cav. I would often go shield-less, as I enjoyed fighting on foot with no shield. You really have to pick your battles though, weaving in and out to avoid enemy weapon swings.

Back on topic, the long hafted blade used to be excellent while mounted. Apparently it was thought to be too good, because it was changed with the last major patch to reduce reach and speed. I find it quite difficult to use now.

1h on horse has massive ghost reach, not buggy animations, you get a force field (shield) and potentially do more damage anyway since you dont get a -25% damage and speed penalty.

I love the hafted blades in single player, but my god in c-rpg the hafted blade has the lamest custom animation ever. Its slow, awkward, does shit for damage, has horrid reach, and there is no reason to ever use that god-awful weapon on horseback.

Its a shame really, because I would love to see some diversity in cav.

Well the way horseman holds a hafted blade isn't WRONG, but the way he twists it after attack is truly moronic. Just make the animation shorter and faster and it will be fine.

Well, it's still possible to kill people with LHB mounted, but it's so slow and the new animation just doesnt't make it effective.
