Title: Poleaxe's are BROKEN - Literally
Post by: Malicious on January 12, 2011, 08:36:54 pm
Poleaxes had their speed reduced by 2, and they were switched over to 2hand heirloom modifier. They know longer will show ingame if heirloomed.

I am not sure if the speed reduction was intentional, and whoever stealth nerfed just screwed up, or that is part of the mistake.

But if it is, I have to ask you to look at endgame item balance, because if you really think that poleaxes (which have lower effective reach than 2handers, while having higher requirements, while having comparable damage, while being a little lower speed before this, while stabbing far shorther) are too fast, than they have a little something coming.

Further Comparison: Now compare the Elegant Poleaxe to the Bec.

Elegant Polaxe ("Best Polearm" in game)
Price: 12026
weight 2
requirement 16
spd rtng 91
weapon length 132
swing damage 39, cut
thrust damage 26 pierce

Bec De Corbin
Price: 7312
weight 2.8
requirement 14
spd rtng 93
weapon length 120
swing damage 36, pierce
thrust damage 26 pierce

Bec requires 2 less strength, has the same thrust damage, has PIERCING damage on swings (effectively making it do FAR more than the cutting on the elegant, and only 3 points less than the cutting!), it has two more speed, and all for the trade off of 11 centimeters, and .8 lb's of weight.

Oh yeah, you also save over four and a half grand... using the superior weapon (Bec). Unnerf the poleaxes.

Even more comparison:

German Greatsword
Price: 11686
weight 2.5
requirement 14
spd rtng 93
weapon length 123
swing damage 38, cut
thrust damage 30 pierce
Can't use on horseback
Secondary Mode

More speed, higher swing distance (considerably), only one less cut damage (negligible), MORE piercing damage, less requirement, still cheaper.

Tradeoff? Shield damage bonus (which is pitiful with low cut damage that the poleaxes have), and half a pound.

Whoot!

i think something changed in polearms close to medium distance hits because even with military scythe i get 'fail' hits while doing head crush (top attack) ...

it pretty annoys considering the weapon lenght and % size of the blade

well I dont think the elegant one is the best poleaxe ("german poleaxe" or "poleaxe" imo)

and if anything is unfair its that poleaxes are WAY better than any twohand axes/bonus vs shield. if you don't think bonus vs shield is worth it go greatswords.

the minus base speed plus speed nerf on hierlooms is quite harsh tho.

The polearm animation is much better than the swords. You can out spam a 2hander so easily with the Bec. It's not even funny how much faster someone swings that thing.

I noticed this today. Had no chance against a German Poleaxe spammer. I couldn't even pull my arm back before I was hit again.

You might have been using a smaller weapon which causes a stun effect and his build could be made for spamlolz aka agility build

What was said above.

The polearm animation is inferior to the 2handers. Same speed, less distance. It has been tested and proven.
