Title: High Ping in Game
Post by: Reyiz on June 26, 2011, 06:53:46 pm
I don't know if this is the right place to write.

I had a ping around 60-90 two or three weeks ago but nowadays I am really suffering from high ping in game like 130-180; even  in TR_Kapikulu_cRPG server I have >70 ping ( I live in Turkey )

I asked my internet service provider to fix it, but they didn't help me at all. They just said that go find a computer technical service to fix my computer. Then I googled how to lower my ping and tried a few guides and programs, however none of them worked on the contrary my ping increased more. I asked some of my computer engineer friends and got the answer it is about the servers and my ISP; but the servers are better than they used to be and other Turkish players have a normal ping around 60-90.

Therefore, I am here asking the help of whoever can handle my ping problem.

Thanks

I've been experiencing problems with high ping as well. It started a week ago, and it fluctuates, sometimes it's ok, sometimes it's unplayable. I've been told that it is related to servers, not to my provider. I live in Monteblack in spanish, btw.

could it be that your providers are jerking you off because they know you can't do shit about it? How competitive is the telecommunication business in turkey/eastern europe?

what some providers do is they limit your speed and redirect it to other people during peak hours instead of expanding bandwidth, to save money and chinz their customers. This happens a lot if there are only 2-3 internet providers, and especially in densely populated areas.

Exactly that's what they do!

I am not sure but it is so close to eastern EU i think

how many internet providers are in your area?

This has happened to me before, but i realized that there was nothing i could do since there were only 2 internet providers in my area, and i was on the least shitty one. You might have to suck it up if you already tried their competitors.

Well I think 2 or 3 ISP exist in my neighbourhood, and mine seems to be the fastest of them as 1 up to 8MBPS

with speed tests, i get 5MBPS download and 500KBPS upload speed

you should not be getting high ping if you're that fast. Could it be that you have a firewall or antivirus that could be slowing down your speed?

I have already turned off my firewall and anti virus but nothing has changed.

btw i downloaded and started to use Cfos Speed program ( i read this will help me to decrease my ping on forums ), and it shows 65 ping overall but in game i have still 140 ping

weird as fuck, no clue. You should contact the server then.

http://www.pingtest.net/

try this site to confirm your ping. If its still in the 60s then something is seriously wrong with your connection to the servers

Packet Loss: 0%
Ping: 70 ms
Jitter: 4 ms
Your Grade: B

these are the results

From my experience i would say many ppl reach the servers from 2 main routes. I actually have identified both. Think about that ISPs use dinamic routing. That means the ISP will balance the traffic using diferent links to the desired destination. In my case one of the routes is always very busy and my ping can vary from 100 to 180. On the other hand the other route is much better and i get about 60-90 ping. My solution: When you join the server, if you see you got high ping, just try rejoing over and over until its get fixed. If you are lucky it will be a matter of seconds to get routed in the right direction :). Its not your ISP really, its one of the other providers that are between. Good luck. Salute.

Bandwith has nothing to do with latency.

What I do know is that I play cxRPG for months, and that the shit started happening maybe a week ago.

I've been having the same problem, except it started about 4-5  months ago. prior to it i could connect to the NA servers with average of 60-80 ping.  then one day  it changed and since then my ping is usually between 90-120, some times it is bouncing up to 300 and is unplayable.

I play out of california , with cox communications as my provider. that ping test site gave me 51ms with 22ms jitters, and 0% packet loss. These days I can barely play on the main NA servers anymore.  Tried variety of anti virus programs, tried disabling them.  called my ISP they told me to get a new cable splitter, did nothing...

Ping is just an indication sadly. It only tells there is 'something' going wrong.
Compare it to having a network of water channels and sending paper boats from one end and back again, and then measure the time it took the boat to get to the end and back again. That's ping basicly, but it doesn't tell you at all at which intersection the boat you send went to the left channel, right channel or centre one. It just tells you, I went there and got back again, here's the time.

For that you can use the following method:
open a command box (command promt, or enter 'cmd' in the search box)
Then type in 'tracert' without quotes and followed by the intended target, in this case, the cRPG server.
Example of what you get back:

command:  tracert 8.8.8.8

1   <1 ms   <1 ms   <1 ms  /// <-- my home router (if this is anything other then very low you have an issue at home, replace cables or even the router itself. If you have connected your PC directly to the internet the first router should be the providers one)
  2    22 ms     9 ms     9 ms  /// <--- my providers router
  3     8 ms     7 ms    16 ms  // <--- next router
  4    25 ms    11 ms    10 ms  /// <--- and next one
  5    15 ms    11 ms     9 ms  72.14.217.124
  6    12 ms    10 ms    11 ms  209.85.248.88
  7    11 ms    11 ms    10 ms  209.85.255.60
  8    20 ms    16 ms    14 ms  216.239.49.38
  9    22 ms    21 ms    14 ms  209.85.255.130
 10    14 ms    15 ms    10 ms  google-public-dns-a.google.com [8.8.8.8] <--- google public DNS

Note that some routers are configured not to respond to ping, so will not give a return except for stars (*)

This won't fix anything of course, but will tell you if the issue is with your provider, or with some provider further up in the chain.
More important, it gives you some data to send to your provider where the issue is for you, with any luck they can go fix it (does take a while usually) and if it is an issue further ahead they can inform that provider.

Hope this helps!

quick edit:
I don't know what the IPs of the cRPG servers are, you'll have to ask those of the admins of that particular server.

Not the only one. It started a few weeks ago here aswell. I'm usually at 30 ping which is my best. Now I'm around 60-90 ping sometimes.

Hm well I've had high ping for almost 2 months now and am still clueless as to what is causing it. But with all the testing I've done I'm more and more sure it's my PC.
