Not even sure if this is even possible but my idea is as following:what about maces and other blunt weapons?
I think it would be great that when you kill an enemy you actually feel like you really killed him
instead of just having a final slash and he dies with only some blood covering his face.
So my suggestion is that when you have your last hit at an enemy (the killing blow) and you hit hes head you cut their head off.
This would work for different kind of hitboxes for example, when you hit their arms you cut a hand off, if you hit their chest you would see a major wound.
This shoudln't look rediculous ingame, like too much body parts flying around, you get my point.
I just think it would bring in a better experience if you could actually see some damage that you cause with your enormous weapon.
What do you guys think about this?
Just to be clear, what we want is this:

But you get the idea, your finishing move has to be deadly, deadly as in meat flying off
I prefer to keep it on the realistic side, so no thanks.
Also Vikingr has beheadings, looks awful, your head just disapears with lots of blood and a new generic silly looking one spawns and rolls around abit.
One thing that's got me better immersed into the violent and brutal world of Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas was because of the limbs and heads being able to explode or cut off, but considering this game is rated T for teen (13+), a disclaimer for the worried parents is probably needed if ever developed :)

lol, i juist googled before i saw this topic and found this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyxxJa9jJrQ&feature=related
I say no, it would be too much of a buff for 1h and a massive nerf on polearms, bows, 2h and xbows.
Beheading and dismemberment would be totally epic! I also suggest making corpses collide with weapons, so if somebody is couched they will actually go flying backwards/forwards from the force of your lance. This would also work with weapons, so they fall in the right direction.+1
Every single person whom has had a lan party with me, and played this...Agreed that if this game had dismemberment, it would be 100x more epic. Honestly the idea of chopping up peasants, or impale lancing them, is just.... oops
a) impossible for a mod to do,
b) highly unrealistic,
c) attracts a kind of audience i don't really want to attract
Our current mechanic is funny, they just drop dead and that's it.And getting hit by a teammate, through the falling dead corpse of an enemy is even more fun.
eww, fully supporting physics. Why would you want that in a game? If I want to know what really happens when I fall 15 feet, I'd jump off a roof.
b) highly unrealistic,
Yah but how sick would that be if catapults actually broke down walls....Red Faction style.

Personally I prefer the lowering system currently in place. It may not look realistic, but it works realistic enough. Doing realistic damage in Warband would take many versions for every scene prop, otherwise some things wouldn't react at all when shot. Perhaps a combination would be nice though.
Dude, if your arm gets chopped off you're basically dead, doesn't matter what you are wielding.
