Title: Slight Tweak to Retiring Mechanic
Post by: Elindor on June 22, 2011, 07:13:17 am
Right now people lvl from 1-31, retire and heirloom something, and start over at 1 to do it again - leveling from 1 - 31 all over.

My suggestion would be that instead of starting over at lvl 1 after you retire and heirloom something, you STAY at lvl 31 (or 30) and your character now has an "heirloom experience bar" that keeps track of your experience gained and how much you still need until you can heirloom again.

This would be the same amount of xp needed to gain another generation, and therefore take the same amount of time as now, but the benefit would be that you wouldnt have to start over at 1 and be slow and weak until around lvl 20+

Thoughts?

Like the idea, but it'd never happen.

:( It it because they wanna keep recycling "peasants" into the game?

Yes. It's always good to have a few peasants in the game so the less skilled players can get some kills too :)

Although your suggestion isn't bad, I would do it like this:

Have leveling to lvl 30 take one million xp LESS and leveling from 30-31 take one million xp MORE.
This way retiring would take the same time, just the leveling to 30 process would be significantly shortened.

But the grind from 30-31 is already sooooo long :(

True, but grinding 1-30 is also long. It only helps because you get the feeling you're not grinding because you're gaining levels :)

Each new generation gives the player an opportunity to try a different role/build. With the system you suggested players would be stuck with the same build...alts can be made though i guess. I just prefer it the way it is because it incorporates more realism; the same person can't live forever, so they die and pass on their most trusted weapon to their child, nephew, niece, etc. for their use. It would be nice though if they shortened the xp gap from 1-30 though

This is not 'a slight tweak', this is removing the feature. The whole idea of retirement is hat your son/daughter carries on what you begun - not getting better items at the age of 53.

Also, noone would retire if this was done, and everyone would just be lvl 31-35, grinding for months to achieve a single level, which would eventually end up with people getting bored.

I like the idea of just shortening the 1-30 and respectively lengthening the 30-31.

The reason for this is that this gives the generation more time at its peak to play in.

- Gold price for retiring
- Time limit between retirements
- Although leveling should go faster (with the xp bonus), in the end each retirement should be slower than the previous one. So instead of "leveling" to 31 after you reached 30, you should be asked wether you want to keep on leveling with the xp bonus you got, or want to retire. To retire, you should have to reach a separate amount of xp depending on what gen you are, and that amount would increase as your gen goes up, without any xp bonus. Ofc someone can change his mind and start gaining xp for retirement when they are level 32, but all the progress made on leveling would be lost.

I like this idea, but I think you should retire at lvl 32, but have it take the same amount of time as it currently does now. Just to break the grind up a little.
