Title: Horse Crossbowman
Post by: Myltinous on June 21, 2011, 10:50:11 pm
 Hey everyone! This is my first post so please give me some slack.
I'm considering playing a Horse Crossbowman char but I have a few questions about it.

1. What is a good build?
2. Does the Horse Archery skill apply to crossbows?
3. Is it better to go hybrid or pure build for this?
4. Anything else that would help in this topic

Thanks :D

I did it once, it was fun, this was my build.

Strength: 7
Agility: 30
Converted: 4
Ironflesh: 2
Riding: 10
Horse Archery: 5
Weapon Master: 10
Crossbow: 190

I also roll with a hybrid most of the time that looks like this with some effect:

Strength: 18
Agility: 18
Converted: 2
Power Strike: 6
Shield: 4
Athletics: 6
Riding: 6
Horse Archery: 1
Weapon Master: 6
One Handed: 135
Crossbow: 100

Usually I only use the crossbow on foot when set up like this though.

I got this from http://wiki.c-rpg.net/index.php?title=Example_Builds

Multirole/Balanced mounted crossbower

Level 30

    * Strength: 18
    * Agility: 18
    * Converted: 2 [meaning 1 convert button press]
    * Iron flesh: 3
    * Athletics: 6
    * Riding: 6
    * Horse archery: 3
    * Weapon mastery: 6
    * One handed: 120
    * Crossbow: 118

Normal layout: Pafley, 1h based on user preference, light crossbow, 2x steel bolts (or steel bolts and weak shield [<- consider taking shield skill instead of iron flesh]).

Positive sides include: being able to use any armor and horse in game, as well as most meleeweapons and crossbows. If playing with team of friends enables heavy armor and armored horse usage. Negative sides include: accuracy & damage with crossbow from horse is quite low. Not very specialized on anything. Final words: Build is nicely playable both mounted or unmounted. Consider also getting heavier crossbow if you feel like spawning without horse and if you know you wont, consider trading athletics for possible shields skill.
[edit] 'pure' HorseCrossbower

Level 30

    * Strength: 7
    * Agility: 30
    * Converted: 4
    * Power strike: 2
    * Riding: 10
    * Horse archery: 5
    * Weapon mastery: 10
    * One Handed: 86
    * Crossbows: 180

Normal gear: Light crossbow, inexpensive horse (pafley recomended, it has nice spots), 2x steel bolts and onehand weapon. Spesific build usable for maybe one or two things, dont expect to get much kills yourself if playing this. Build is mostly support role, where bolts are used to area deny unshielded enemies, reduce cover of enemy ranged fighters by flanking and shooting them to their backs from safe distance, guard friendly footsoldiers from enemy cavalry and support frienlies by softening enemies.

Positive sides include: Wonderfull accuracy and reload speed with light crossbow even from fullspeed courser and being agile and fast with almost any horse thanks to high riding skill. Can run circles around enemy lanceusing horsemen, while shooting their horses with crossbow. Negative sides include: Quite weak when unmounted, cant onehit almost anything, horsearchers can still be quite absolute bane of this build.

thanks for the builds!  :mrgreen:
I'll think about this as my 2nd gen char with a loomed light crossbow!

So I'm guessing the HA skill applies to crossbows, and that the guy that posted against that just doesn't have his facts strait.
