Title: Seems slow
Post by: Zisa on June 15, 2011, 06:56:40 pm
After a 4 month Haitus I played a bit. Did the game get slowed down since then, seems so, or I could just be fondly remembering the pre september days before the ninja speed patch.

Seems there is less of a window in which one can block as well.

overnerf i imagine. There was quite a few nerfs on 2h and polearms.

Big nerf on throwing, small nerf on archers, small nerf on cav. Few changes on 2h and pole (mostly slot system) dont know if its a nerf tho. Hope i'm correct, it's only the way I've seen it.

A question... why?

Slowdown places win percentages less in the level camp and more in the skill camp

Whaaaat, I've gone back to native a few times and I've found myself playing better than I did before cRPG came out.

pah! poppycock! rubbish!

You and your ilk would have us playing Mount & Blade chess.

The most fun I had was pre september, gen one around level 21 for the first time, with some useless points spent, a pilgrim disguise and a plain old katana. One could 'spam block' back then, even correcting an originally wrong block.

It seems running (athletics) has taken a hit, as well as jumping. Dodging missiles is of course a lot harder now, because the character is slightly above zombie speed.

Could we possibly try a fastest server?

Oh, and to all you mediocres who KEEP making this game slower with incessant nerfs and whines, DIE!

edit: I recall when 166 wpf was quick.

How did we nerf athletics and jumping, which are both hardcoded mechanics?

All you would have to do is make each 2 athletic points in cRPG translate to 1 athletic point in the warband code for athletics.  It could have been done in the last warband patch that accompanied the january cRPG patch.  Other ways of doing this.  Not sure which way it was done, but there definitely was at the very least a hit to acceleration (pre-january you went full speed from a start, you don't do that anymore which makes it easier for cav kills on slow accelerating infantry) and maximum speed of characters.  Best you can do is a fast walk now.

When I was infantry, the slower acceleration sort of made it more realistic for me..

I think they rebuffed it??

The other possibility is that they changed how armor affects speed/athletics so even 5 weight armor (which is light armor) significantly nerfs the benefit of athletics.  So you see these strength builders with 1-2 athletics keeping pace with 6 weight armor agility builds with 8 athletics.  Why not go strength??  I don't have the patch notes but its pretty obvious something was done in january patch.
I don't know why paul keeps avoiding this issue when its been pretty obvious for a long time that athletics/run speed/armor weight effect/acceleration have somehow been significantly nerfed since January.  Would love to see more balance between strength and agility.  I remember people with 6 athletics actually being significantly faster than people with 2 athletics pre-january and it just sucks that between exponentionally increasing wpf costs and this athletics nerf that agility builds got hammered despite already having a disability of dying in 1-2 hits compared to 7-8 of strength and high armor builds.

I feel the same. I was a lot faster. I don't know how this happened, but it has.
At the Moment athletics and/or agility aren't really viable anymore...

There are no changes at all to movement speed as far as I know.

Even with equipment weigth ? I have the feeling that an additional ath point doesn't let you wear more than 2 additional kg of armor for the same speed.

Neither agi nor athletics are lowered within the weight based wpf reduction routine.

Yet speed and acceleration are, no ? If the armor reduction to speed is linear

Code: [Select]
effective speed = base speed * (some maximum - your armor weight)
then armor indirectly reduces the bonus of athletics, because this bonus seems to be constant (each point gives you exactly k more speed).

We can only influence movement speed and acceleration with changing the amount of agi and athletics an agent has. I'm not aware of any other method.
