Why is 75% of the NA population obsessed with siege. It's a terrible mode for crpg IMO (great for strategus). I'd love to get some 80+ battles going but the only way to do that is on the EU server with a high ping. It seems like EU is the polar opposite. Nearly all EU players like battle mode. What gives NA bretheren? I personally enjoy battle way more than siege.
-
From what I've seen on EU it's usually the less skilled players playing siege and more skilled are on battle.
-
It's all about Battle.
-
EU player. Play 98% battle. Siege was only fun with semi-heavy armor, a pole build with Bardiche and overhead spamming people climbing up ladders. Other then that i just find it frustrating and/or boring.
-
Voted battle...
Siege have been utter shit since they introduced the NA maps to the EU siege servers :?
-
Battle I prefere, always have more fun and more jokes when playing it. Siege is good when I want to practice manual blocking since not only are there constant respawns but everyone wants to spam and never block back so great practice. I still prefere battle.
-
Battle. I prefered Battle allways over Siege in Native as well. crpg siege is a lot better, but there is just no part-of-a-team-feeling. I blame constant autobalance switching.
Though I still wish there would be a TDM for mindless diversity. Love this totally chaotic mod and its still a reason to play native now and then.
Also still curious about CTF in crpg, could be great fun I imagine.
-
NA No preference/preference conditional on which of my four characters I am playing and/or server population.
-
I wish say CTF but it doesn't have much success on cRPG or even on Warband.
Then battle 50 vs 50 on big/plain maps.
For siege I don't like the idea of taking the flag in 10 seconds in an area virtually isolated from the rest of the battle field.
With backdoors that will never exist in reality, which makes the castle like a sieve.
-
I didn't realize this was a complaint thread until after I voted.
'What gives'?
-
I voted battle, but siege has alot of attractions, the largest of which is the fast respawn times. The annoying part of siege is that it is static - the flag is in the same place and you storm the castle, get killed, spawn storm the castle... I never got to try capture the flag before it was taken out. If it is anything like "defend the flag" from 1866 that is the best of all possible worlds.
-
EU here and i prefer siege.
Back then it was battle, but now get shot from all sides and trampled down by hordes of cavalry (and i have a shield and some polearm support).
There is at least a chance for some melee fights on the siege servers.
-
EU - Siege for grind, Battle for fun
-
EU - Siege for fun, battle for grind.
I only really enjoy battle if it's less than 50 players. Siege is just mindlessly zerging, but at least that has alot of melee combat, instead of waiting around for the ranged to shoot each other apart, so you can finally get into melee, where there's always the chance to screw up and get one shotted which means you spend the rest of that round doing nothing.
-
NA - battle all the way.
Generally there are only kinds of players who play siege on NA: New players, or experienced players who feel like effortlessly toping the charts.
Battle is much more dynamic, teamwork is much more important (camping a flag is not teamwork), and individual skill matters so much more. I just find siege to be terribly boring. You either camp the flag, camp a ladder, camp a ramp or just charge forward over and over and over again.
-
Hmm, sounds like battle mode. camp that hill, camp this roof, cav swarm out and inf just wait and camp.
-
both are fun, but i like siege more,
dont want to spend half my time spinning 360 so i dont get couched.
or chasing monkey archers that seem to find high ground on every map
-
battle is way more epic,
you can do tactics and teamwork there.
and, of course, EU ftw, but let's not start that discussion in here
-
Battle SUCKS.
I hate waiting to play. Why play for 2 minutes and wait for 4? That is terrible.
Seige has faster respawn = more play time = less wasted time = more fun for me.
I want Team Deathmatch with instant respawn. THAT would be fun!

No tactics no nothing... bah.
Battle with bannerbalance ftw!

I think having an objective (flag) to go after or defend encourages tactics. It makes me think and play more strategically anyways...
-
Siege - its more fun for me. Battle is also good but archers ruined that mode.
-
Definitely battle for me. (EU)
-
I'm not into camping or having to spec other players so I am forced to play siege.
-
I play siege mostly because the faster respawn time and lack of skirmish phases means I get a lot more melee fights in the same amount of time. As a newer player this means a lot more practice time as well. If duel gave experience, I'd probably play that for the most part, as it was my favourite mode in native.
Siege mode definitely does have a lot of potential for teamwork and tactics. It's not always easy to convince people to follow orders, but when you can, you can very easily and clearly benefit from the team effort. I've seen some fantastic shield+pike walls in siege, and I think support classes have greater potential in siege, where K/D is even less critical for victory. A good leader makes a big difference in siege, more so than melee skill. Battle seems to have more co-ordinated efforts from factions, but I think a dedicated siege clan could definitely pull off some great tactics on siege when banner balance is on. I don't know of any such factions, which is somewhat surprising considering the practical application to Strategus.
I've started playing battle more nowadays mostly because the players are generally much more skilled, so in that respect each melee fight is more interesting and challenging. I've still got horrible awareness and die frequently to cavalry, and archer camping is somewhat aggravating. I figure if I get more practice and get acclimatized to battle I'll start to appreciate it more.
It seems to me that novice players don't like battle because they inevitably spend most of their time dead, and as such move to siege, and experienced players don't like siege as much because all the novice players make teamwork and co-ordination more difficult. Its the players that make the mode, and if more experienced players got together in siege, I'm sure they'd have just as good a time as on battle.
-
I have the impression of playing LESS in siege than in battle. Maybe I tend to be reckless because I can die as much as I like, so I die way faster than in battle.
Anyway, that's why I don't play siege.
From my personal experience, siege is usually what beginners freshly arrived from the Native 22nd siege server play, so the skill level is pretty low (compared to battle).
-
I'd vote for Team Deathmatch if it was available.

The NA battle servers are usually always full (~80% capacity consistently). Maybe you're just playing at weird times.
You'll see more skilled players on battle always. Siege is good when you feel like slaughtering people, but I prefer Battle mode to the former.
-
I am EU and I don't like battle mode, simply because I want to play a game and not spectate other people. It's true though that it's really hard on siege mode to get people to follow some kind of plan.
Also, I think banner balance should be turned off on siege, it has a big impact if 10 ppl can coordinate a defense in teamspeak, while the attackers are just a bunch of random guys.

You're right, there were a lot of people on battle server earlier today. Later at night (8pm-2am CST) everyone is on the siege server.
-
I prefer Siege (NA) for the same reasons; respawns and fighting opportunities. I dislike Battle for the same reasons, too: as a 2H I am vulnerable to both archers and cavalry (though I learned to half-hand my swords to stab at the horsies). I also feel more like I'm doing something in Siege mode (protect the gatehouse/block the stairs/open the door/camp the flag, etc) instead of running around somewhat aimlessly until the last runaway archers are dealt with. But it's probably just due to still being pretty new (about three months cRPG out of six total Warband) or just bad in general.

75 % of the NA population ?
Numbers are same.

I only played siege when I was working overnight shifts and it was the only high pop server at 5am. Now that I'm done with that schedule though siege feels like chopping wood. Also, everytime I have to read GG SPOOK FANS on the chat log I get the irresistible urge to hit alt-x and then go torture puppies. Battle all the way.
-
Man EU has a huge voter turnout compared to NA. Or a lot of non EU players saying they are, I guess.
-
Nah, there's just more of us.
-
Yea, that, and I'm pretty sure more EU players frequent the forums compared to NA players.

Siege player here.
Wrong on all accounts. Sorry but Team deathmatch has not a viable multiplayer mode since the late 90's. Battle tends to be a clusterfuck of stupidity of each person wandering off on their own to die. The only strategy is stay together in a huge zerg swarm or find some defendable camp location. I see much more teamwork in Siege to accomplish a goal, that doesnt include STAYING ALIVE AT ALL COSTS.....AKA DELAYING or breaking clearly stated server rules and starting 1v1 duels when its 1 guy vs 5 enemies remaining.
Battle has devolved into who has the most archers or cav and who can get to the best camping spots first. Its way more frustrating than say losing a siege map as defender dying in the last 30 seconds. Battle is all about epeen since it tracks your KDR, whereas siege players are willing to take a death in order to accomplish something for their team.

That's because at some point in between, shooters stopped including high powered pick-ups to promote map movement, and slowed down movement significantly. If you tried to camp in Quake TDM you'd be repeatedly torn apart by a Quad/Mega stacked team whizzing past your location spamming you with explosives, then bouncing away before you could shoot back.
In modern "realistic"/console style shooters, there's no incentive to move around the map to pick up supplies, and movement is so slow a geriatric grandmother could fire at you before you can move back into cover.
So you're right, it wouldn't work in cRPG without adding some incentive to moving around.

EU (Hungary :) ) , siege +1
battle is so pointless .. just a gaycher fest.
Wookis melee monday battles were cool. 8-)
