Title: 1 million of reasons to fix the weather
Post by: DaveUKR on June 12, 2011, 04:43:18 pm
#1 The weather indicator is broken. It never shows the right weather, it shows "the sky is clear" almost always.

#2 It's not realistic that we have rain 50% of the time. Rain must be something rare like it's in real life (NOT MORE than several hours per WEEK)

#3 The weather changes too frequently, which is totally unrealistic

#4 The weather has nothing common with the map. It can be rainy/foggy in the desert (which looks very bad, this orange fog can't be even called a sandstorm), it can rain while the clear sky, etc...

#5 The weather changes in the middle of the round without any visual changes, but the game mechanics change

#6 Rain penalties are random (taleworlds didn't think about crpg, when they did them), -10% for bow and -25% for xbows. Nobody knows where did they get these numbers, but still... Rain should affect only on air friction, which is reasonable. Because it's not okay that your xbow/bow loses 25/10 percent of damage/bolt speed in the building/close range.

#7 Rain looks really ugly, cheap particles effect looks very bad. It would be much better if rain was more intensive and there would be a flash&thunder.

Ways to fix:

1) Sync the weather indicator with the real game status
2) Make weather changes possible only after the current map ends
3) Rebalance the weather generator, so the amount and frequency of rain would be more/less realistic
4) Add the new effects of the rain
5) Implement WSE to change airfriction for different weapon types and different weather

Bah the weather system pisses me off as  well,  every time I join there is a chance of surely  80% that its rainy, then 1 round without, and boom rain again,

When I want to play cRPG I want at least a bit realism and not always rain, which make me GTX faster  :|

Xbows are affected by rain because of the string and mechanics.

Rain adds some change on maps, if the sky stay blue all the time, it's'also boring as hell.

(edit: too much rage for nothing).

Xbows are affected by rain because of the string and mechanics, not because of friction, which for once is realistic.

Btw, i don't see many things realistic in this game and frankly there is more important things to do before fix the weather...

I really don't care of weather, it don't change anything, also you can turn of particule if u don't want to see the rain. And it adds some change on maps, if the sky stay blue all the time, it's'also boring as hell.

(No offense intended ofc, it's only my opinion).

I dont do too, i could play also without, but if they add weather, then please a proper one

Are bows affected by the rain? Because there used to be a "hint" when loading up the sp on the original mount and blade saying that crossbows are worse in rain as they can't be unstrung, suggesting it didn't affect bows.

As a crossbowman, I find it irksome being reduced to a ladder man every second map.

I have been collecting a tally of rain against no rain when a battle begins, counting each battle as a day.  Currently it is around 50%.  This suggests cRPG Caladria would rival the Amazonian Basin for yearly average rainfall.

They do, I shoot worse in it.

If I remember rain makes crossbows 25% less accurate, bows 10% less accurate and reduces everyones run speed pretty noticably.

accuracy is not affected, just damage and projectile speed.

Haha, so clearly we need some Ark maps!  Capture the ark, and let the losers drown in the great flood.

Yeah, it rains waaay too much. Hurts ranged a little, but also makes everyone slower, hurts athletics, which is the part that irks me own (as someone who has an archer he plays fairly regularly, I say this).

Maybe Calradia is in mid africa or something

In single player Calradia did not rain this much, no...

I think this is more of a cultural change, where the lords of battle have developed a superstition that if you fight during the rain then it is a good omen! Or we fight during the rain to appease the rain gods... so we always seek those rainy days out and ignore most of the dry ones!

Seriously though, lower the rain

Or perhaps someone has been rain dancing way too often lately.

I'd like to hear your opinion when your character becomes crippled 50% of the time.

good point :)
i should rephrase that, i like the changes, to the weather. if they won't affect anybody negative or simply less, that's also fine by me. i simply like the optical effects and changes.
